My dedicated theater room is on hold, so I'm going to upgrade the family room to hold me over.

I'd like something in the 40-50" range I think. I get headaches (sometimes) from DLP, and the room will not have much light control (french doors with semi-sheer curtains on one side wall). At the moment we don't have HD, but will as soon as we have a suitable TV. This will be used for SD, HD, DVDs. It will be our main TV, being in the family room, for everything from the weather channel to news to movies. I'd like to avoid expensive replacement bulbs (i.e. $1000 sony Ruby bulb I'm eyeing for the dedicated HT room) since this TV will get use quite a bit. I suppose it'd be nice to have a TV that can do a decent job scaling to higher resolutions.

The Toshiba Theaterwide 42" has been recommended to me due it an excellent picture. Best Buy has it on sale for essentially the same price as the best local price I've seen, with free delivery. Does anyone have knowledge of this model, or have any alternate suggestions? I've also seen Sony SXRDs and JVS's LCOS, and liked both of them. Having read about the sony kds50a2000, it may be on the list with the earlier 50" SXRD.

thank you for any info you can provide.

I've read a few user reviews of the Toshiba 42HP66 over at C-Net.com.
The reviews were all positive.
Alternately, there is the Panasonic TH42PX60U which is good also.

You've found a good price on a good tv, why not pull the trigger? Best Buy has a decent return policy if you change your mind.

Hey, why not get your salesman to work for the sale. With a little hemming and hawing you may get a better price. In any event, don't let them sell you any of their ridiculously overpriced cables or b.s. extended warranty.

Good luck and good hunting.
