TV headphone jack to sound bar

I have an HD TV which I can't replace as it was a gift (and still works fine). The problem is that its only audio-out connector is a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Can I connect that to a soundbar (via RCA) without damaging either item?
The TV signal comes in through a PVR connected to the TV by HDMI. Will I get soundbar and TV sound at the same time?
I also have a WD TV Live media player and a Chromecast connected to the TV (via HDMI) will these work with the headphone jack to soundbar set-up?
Thanks.

You should be able to get sound vis your headphone output to the line level RCA jacks on your soundbar. As for sound from bots, that depends on your TV. You may have to manually turn off it's internal speakers. Check your manual for more on this.

You’re really doing this backwards. Do you actually have the sound bar yet? If not get one that accepts HDMI inputs. Then you can connect your PVR, WD TV and Chromecast to the sound bar directly. The sound bar would have an HDMI output to the TV.

Thanks. I already had the soundbar (no HDMI). Turned off the TV speakers and all is good.
