FWIW I was the one who brought up the manual and using the level adjustment, TLSGuy said it was not going to help particularly :)
incorrect attribution is a plague. I am in your debt for the correction. :D

1F272578-051A-487E-AEFD-ABF88EB3E6AF.jpeg Imanuel, if two points are true....you're thinking of upgrading to a better TT because/and you think you'll be wanting to use it a good portion of the time. Then as you need to save up anyway, jump up 2-4 levels in TT quality.
A great TT is the Marantz TT-15S1, which retails for $1499.
It comes with a Clearaudio Virtuoso cartridge, as the TT is actually built by Clearaudio in Germany.
The Virtuoso is a MM cartridge that is so good it rivals MC cartridges. The cousin of the 15S1 is Clearaudio Emotion SE and it's retail price is $2500 and the Marantz designed/spec TT is still better, for $1000 less.
I've been using the 15S1 since 2010. And what I hear from my LP collection is much more detail, than I've ever heard previously.

What is the longest run possible of RCA cables from turntable to pre-amp, then from pre-amp to receiver?

Seriously, I have no life.
What is the longest run possible of RCA cables from turntable to pre-amp, then from pre-amp to receiver?
About 3 ft from turntable to preamp, and up to about 20 ft from phono preamp to line input with good quality cable.

It was a gift, so I just used it when I bought my home theater. Yep, I'm starting to think I need to upgrade to a better turntable, but I just finished investing $800 in my audio and video equipment, so I will do it next year. The TT works, badly, but at least i works. It's a pain in the ass I need to raise the volume every time, but it's a temp solution until I have the cash for a new TT. Just one last question. Buying an external preamp won't do me any good, right?
Here's a second opinion. There may be nothing wrong. Using the turntable's preamp to receiver's line input, I'd suspect about a 10db to 20db volume increase need than volume setting need for normal listening from other sources. This is typical.
