For what he wants to play, I would recommend this project turntable.

I would definitely recommend upgrading to the Ortofon 2M Bronze. If he can stretch to it, see if they will upgrade you to the 2M black.

He will be happy with this rig.
So I met up with him yesterday. He's sold on the Project, and will do at least the Bronze upgrade, if not the Black.

While he balked at certain price points for speakers, he is definitely much more willing to throw down on the TT. As I suspected, he really likes his vinyl collection. ;) He found a lot of lost/unknown records of his as they moved everything next door during their home renovations which just began. He will buy the TT and everything else around the end of summer.

He bought a Bose 321 system for the TV! LOL. At first, when I responded, he said he had a marriage to consider. At the end of the conversation, he was convinced to return the set. $900! LOL

I did good, huh? :p

**Oh yeah, he was curious on how to best clean off his records, which are decades old. Any tips? Thanks.

Seriously, I have no life.

I think you have done him proud!

If his collection has been properly stored, then the records may not be dirty.

I have a pretty large collection and years go by before some LPs are played, but they are not dirty. If the jacket is intact and the inner sleeve opening is towards the top or bottom of the jacket, then dust does not get in.

You have to be careful of wet cleaning methods, unless you have powerful vacuum. Water and detergents tend to drive dirt to the bottom of the groove where it creates even more noise.

A record brush like this will remove surface dirt.

I attribute the preserved silent surfaces of my collection, to Cecil E Watts wonderful Dust Bug. I use his Dust Bug dry with every playing. His imitators devices never worked. You can read the details on page 12 of the document.

Here is a picture of one in use.

These marvelous devices do turn up on eBay from time to time, and more often then not in an unopened box. I bought one in that condition for my son recently.
