Trying to setup a home audio system

Hello.

I'm trying to assemble a home theater system with a low budget. This is what I'm trying to do:

  1. Get a Polk Audio PSW-505 Powered Subwoofer.
  2. Get 4 Polk Audio OWM3 On-Wall Speakers.
  3. Get a Polk Audio CS10 Center Channel Speaker.
Now, with this setup of speakers, I need an advise with the AV receiver that can perform very well with all before mention.

Thanks in advance,

Carlos...

There’s nothing about those (or most) speakers that is particularly demanding or unusual. Pick a receiver with the features you need at the price you’re willing to pay.

I prefer Yamaha. Accessorries4 less is a good website to buy an AVR at a good price. Peace and goodwill.

As far as subs go, its fairly mediocre. What's your budget?

Denon avr is really good and svs & hsu has nice subs that's in your budget and both are solid with outstanding performance and quality...

Assuming $1000 is the total budget for the speakers and the subwoofer together, your best bet would be the SVS package deal found HERE, and it would far outperform what you have listed.

Then you need a receiver, almost anything will do.

You're welcome. I just happened to notice that the SVS kit is available in high gloss white. That (or the gloss black) is $200 more though. If it looks better and/or achieves higher WAF (wife approval factor), the upgrade may be worth the money. ;)

Hahahaha, indeed the budget is for acquiring everything (receiver included). She kill me if I surpass that amount, :D .....

I would agree with this. If theirs a way you could stretch your budget to $1400 or $1500 Id recommend this same package and a yamaha or denon receiver from accessories4less.

So with a total budget of $1400, you would suggest $800 for the AVR and $600 for speakers?

Carlos,
Please don't consider that kind of allocation for even a second. I don't believe it is even possible for a system where the AVR costs more than the speakers to sound better than one for the same budget where the speakers cost more than the AVR. I'm not saying it's a bad idea or unlikely... I'm saying it is not possible.

Your speakers will be the heart and soul of your system. They should get most of the love, (and money)... not the AVR. Please follow a path like the one recommended by BoredSysAdmin.

I totally agree with the sentiment of how the cost ratio should be weighed. I don't have an opinion about the components suggested by BSA. I just think for single-source simple, the SVS speaker kits are a well executed option.

SVS Package is not bad, but OP said that 1k budget is for everything including avr. Your suggestion is least $400 over the original budget. In addition I see issue with no horizontal center speaker in package.
In addition I believe JBL's arena 120 waveguide design will provide better imaging and more focused soundstage, than SVS Sats which are designed to be surrounds.

If budget goes over original 1k, Before adding surrounds, I would rather recommend changing sub to more powerful one.
Just for the sub?
He's not wrong. Really good sub only start at 1k, but luckily there are decent selection of budget subs which are less powerful but still very competent.

Why does a center channel need to be horizontal? Most are, mine is. It seems to be just the natural thing to do as it's usually just above or below a "landscape" oriented video screen.

I have to wonder if SVS considers that with their kit most people would take one of the five speakers and lay it on its side.

As for budget, Carlos listed five speakers and a sub in the first post. Not until AFTER I posted that did he reveal that the total $1000 budget included the receiver. That changes the game completely. While I can't imagine buying much of a complete 5.1 system for that, I did....for half that. Mine is a combination of quality used (but mint condition) speakers and sub, and a Best Buy "Open Box" special on a Pioneer receiver.
