TrueHD problem with PS3?

If I play PCM, it says PCM but it is 2ch only.
Score one (temporarily) for the better standalones! The better standalones will re-encode multichannel PCM, DD+ and DolbyTrueHD to DTS for Toslink out. I've read there are a few discs with Dolby TrueHD that do NOT have a companion track. I bet that might cause a few issues for the players that don't re-encode to DTS/DD.

I bet if enough PS3 owners complain, Sony will issue an update to address this. Their standalone support has been so-so, but their PS3 support has been phenomenal!

The simple fact that I can pause the movie a few times and get the issue to go away suggests to me that it is not a re-encoding problem. Will keep you posted. It may very well be that the PS3 is doing it fine and the receiver doesn't like it or handle it properly or something else, but last night I watched The Dark Knight and didn't have the issue at all, where in testing the day before I did - pausing stops it from happening. Weird.

For PCM, if I switch the PS3 from bitstream to PCM and play a lossless PCM or TrueHD track, it comes across not as stereo, but only the two front channels. I read somewhere that this would be the case, so it is working correctly.

I watched Dark Knight on blu-ray this evening with TrueHD and noticed the crackling was horrible this time. I had to run to the bathroom, so I paused it for about 2 minutes. When I came back the crackle actually went away completely!!!.....for about 5 minutes then returned.

Sounds like a software problem to me with the PS3 and not the receiver. Maybe we should give Sony a call.
