I've got a Toshiba A20 going through an Onkyo 605 and then to the TV. All HDMI cables.

I'm not getting TrueHD sound when watching HDDVD.

I get Dolby Digital D when I watch regular DVD that sounds much better than than HDDVDs.

I've got a 5 speaker system. Is this why?

When HDDVD is on I get PLII Movie, Neo16 Cin, Neural Surr????

Not sure what I need to do.

I adjusted the audio on the dvd player to "auto". The options are PCM and Downmixed PCM. Now the receiver says PCM Multichannel.

Is this good?

Your player can't output bitstream, so your receiver won't be able to decode the TrueHD, even if it has built in TrueHD decoders. Your player will take the TrueHD track and decode it to Multichannel PCM and output the PCM to your receiver. PCM is uncompressed lossless audio, TrueHD is compressed lossless audio. Until the new HD players can output bitstream, all decoding will be done by the player and passed to the receiver via PCM through HDMI. But TrueHD and DTS-HD and DTS-HD MA both contain the core Dolby Digital, and DTS tracks so if you have your player connected to the receiver via digital optical, or digital coax, you will only hear the standard dolby or dts track.

I had a similar situation with my Toshiba HD-XA1 & Harman Kardon 247 (before I sold it to my brother).

I set the Toshiba's Audio output to PCM & so the Toshiba was decoding TrueHD and sending the PCM signal to the HK receiver.

This morning I couldnt get sound at all. It's hooked via HDMI. I get the pic but the receiver dispalys "No Signal"?????

I'll try doing a firmware update and then switching cables.

If that doesnt work, I guess I'll return the player.

Yeah, that has happened to me also.
Sound, but no picture.
Picture, but no sound.
Picture, Sound, but out of sync--dialogues don't match the lips.

And it's not just HD DVD. It has happened when I had my PS3 blu-ray.

So far, I have not had any issues with my Panasonic BD.

I want the new Samsung BD-UP5000 Combo player (BD/HD DVD) that is suppose to have both Internal & Bitstream TrueHD & DTS-HD MA vis HDMI 1.3 & 7.1 Analog output! Price is $800 & release date is December. I might buy in January.
