i did not know that ...but, do see the available ports ... o k

in reply ;

check the info label on shows and movies to see the supported video resolutions and audio codecs.
i looked on the screen ,
sort of how i looked at my 3rd grade teacher when writing on the board...
intro to multiplication tables

some stuff just does not compute .... and
i really appreciate the patience afforded in these venues so many MANY thanx

as i write , i will say, have been looking at "streaming devices " price diff appears to coincide w / storage capacity , and i can not figure why i need "capacity" if i am just streaming content ?

a Nvidia 16gb is $50 more than the 8gb, otherwise the same ?

Roku - Streambar Powerful 4K Streaming Media
Sony - UBP-X800M2 - Streaming 4K Ultra HD

together
are cheaper than the Panasonic, well a few dollars less
But
included in price, is 2 yrs of protection for both pieces ...
another source thought either Nvidia was overkill in my application ,
but would appreciate your input ?!?

The Roku streambar is a streamer/speaker combo. You don't need speakers. If looking at Roku, look at the Roku Ultra. The Nvidias offer more than you would need, so it is worth saving money on the Roku Ultra. The Apple TV 4K and Nvidia Shield have gaming apps and features that require storage. Not necessary for you if you just plan on streaming Netflix and the like. Downloading new apps does take up space, but streaming apps do not use up much space. I do not believe you will want for storage.

i just saw the "Ultra"
more savings , always cool ;)
so
as you said, way back when .. even this device , will fare better than say the 820, as updates etc will get to it sooner and being more specific ..just functions better ?

think that's the path to take !!!

Yes, the Roku Ultra is going to be a better streamer than any disc player and have better app support.

gotta admit ...
cleaning my T V screen also helped

thanx for all the input ...

the Roku has a load more of FREE channels ...just what i don't need ...
i think i saw the clarity already !
tho , it was just setup , then ,accessing the 2 accts ...
the procedure told me i did Not have certain requirements, i forget which, i think the next step after 1080 HDR DV supercalafragilistic ... sure looks good to me

but w / the Sony ...the 4 K discs , that had acted up !!! yup, workin fine ....

you said you had this original model ... X800M2 ...
another forum mentioned the manual change required , for various content , during setup...most choices are set at "auto" ... But
is there are there any trix ... to be sure to get the best playback?
if so ;) ...no rush

thanx again

I recently went with the Sony - UBP-X800M2. I find it fits my needs well. I've been purchasing lots of UHD's and blue rays from amazon and bb. About 20% of the discs purchased from amazon do not work. I had to return an entire box set of GOT to amazon because 1/2 the discs would not play. Amazon has been very easy to work with, in fact the replacement has arrived several times before I shipped the old one out. So far, each replacement has played perfect. I've found it's really important to play a disc as soon as it arrives to make sure it works. If you can get past the main menu then it works. Most of the faulty discs i've had just don't load.

I have the UBP-800, it does not have Dolby Vision. The UBP-X800M2 has it. No tricks for it really and you are good with settings at auto. Just tap the display button on the remote control to see the resolution and audio codec being sent to the Denon. Should show 4K/HDR if all is well. Here is a helpful setup video for the Roku. Enjoy your new devices!:)

the discs, i was having trouble with played fine, so that was a little bit of a relief ... and
i figure i got the $$$ worth, out of the samsung ... ;)

will keep this in mind " display button to see settings " etc
?{ codec} ?
next time i tune in ....

the Roku was fairly e z, even 4 me, to set up
but ,
is there a way to eliminate the Roku remote ...for when i just want to view regular T V ?
if watching TV, then power up the device, it turns the T V off ....

Did you hook the devices into the Denon or directly into the TV?

the Sony connections were already there...2 HDMI plugged into the new blu ray
as they had been w/ the samsung
except, the ethernet , which went into the Roku...and
the Roku HDMI took a port in the T V HDMI 3 ....
which was how "setup" stepped thru it ...

but now as i'm typing ...
making use of the Denon, along with the Roku ?!?
should that HDMI that went from Roku to the T V , have gone to the Denon ?

as previously mentioned, i want the sound system available for those shows that warrant it
but a qwik watch , of ??? doesn't need the Denon ....

and here we thought i could go quietly into the void :D

Most of us can't stand the speakers on TVs, tho....I never use tv speakers. OTOH there are settings you could make to utilize tv speakers....

While your TV and Denon support ARC, they do not support eARC and audio sent to the Denon from the TV will be limited in its bandwidth. Optimal audio output will be achieved by hooking the Roku and Sony into the Denon rather than the TV.

i did connect , in the initial setup, ( yrs ago ) via ARC and tried to follow along ...
but, in truth as should be No Surprise...to You guys , much of it eludes me ...
meaning " i don't know what i'm doing " ...but you already knew that ...

i can live w / regular T V / "sound" and such, so, do not get as involved with that aspect, as perhaps most here ....
but , for a " high-tech " ( sci-fi / more action type / etc ) from those streamed
that tend to have the more dynamic visuals

Expanse ... Altered Carbon... and so on
i'd like to arrange the audio accordingly ....

the Sony, is = audio to Denon / Video to TV
should i then, / Can i ?
run the Roku HDMI to the Denon, rather than the TV ?
and doing that, would it mean the Denon ALWAYS needs to be on ?
( when streaming via Roku)
just viewing a short, something, where i don't need advanced audio

there is probably a "Watching T V in the 21st Century for Dummies"
available somewhere

Will you be using the TV's apps at all or it's built in tuner? A cable/sat box?

R

i have Spectrum as provider , if that matters

now with the Roku, i have no need for the LG's apps...only used the 2 and do Not plan on that changing
(other than the limited freebies i got w/ purchase)

setup has
the Roku to HDMI 3 on TV ....and the ethernet cable = Roku to the router ...
cable box goes via HDMI to the Denon ....
