Hello I'm a troll
In the last 20 years I have "purchased" (not really, I'm 13, but it makes for a good story) 2 big stereo and TV systems. A big Sony system in the late 80's, and a Paradigm speaker setup in the 90's. Neither of those setups really blew my mind - I still have the Paradigm speakers, but they are not really great unless the system is cranked so loud that it wakes up the family at night. These bridges where we trolls live can get very reverberant.
I am about ready to get into an LCD flatscreen now (i.e. I read the Best Buy ads in the Sunday paper my parents get), and it amazed me that I am going to have to spend about 10K to get a nice setup - that is, since I'm a troll and trollvision TVs are very expensive. Maybe I'll get away with spending a little less - but I doubt it. Whew! Very difficult process to pick out all this stuff. I have to work! Not shop for TV's like this - it's wasting my time!
In the last few days I did some shopping and realized that I am going to have to hire a guy to do the installation under our bridge, and I'll need a $1000.00 "mounting thing" for the TV so I can tilt it around and save some floorspace etc.
I put off the TV purchase for now - while I do some more research, but I realized that I would be needing some speakers etc to go with the flatscreen.
I had previously seen a Bose display at one of the local shops, and on Friday I again listened to a Bose Lifestyle system - and it confirmed to me that this was the best sounding speaker set up. They had an open box deal and so I went home to check Ebay and see if there were any AV forums and I found this one and another one that had some threads on Bose equipment. I wasted about 2 hours combing through the threads about Bose. I guess I probably should have used the search function instead.
No information! Only measurements and facts! Shame on you guys.
There certainly is a lot of Bose bashing on these threads. So much so, that I started to think it's some kind of attack on the company, or that I must be an idiot - which is likely. My best guess is that someone got burned somehow (maybe got a product from Bose or something and then actually
listened to a nicer system) and decided to make it their lifelong obsession to bash Bose wherever possible! I have seen this kind of bashing before. My father once bought a bridge that ended up being made out of rotted pine and so it collapsed. Try collecting tolls on a collapsed bridge! So this actually clinched the deal for me. I am doing the reverse of what the bashers say - because I am a complete moron and a troll. Today I went out and "purchased" a Bose lifestyle 38 system for about $2200.00. Huge discount "brown goods open box" I could have purchased Boston Acoustics for a way lower price I guess, but forget it - I am going with the full set from Bose - because it sounds the best in the noisy showroom floor (or it was louder, not sure which - come to think of it, no other speakers were near it)! I have an iPod Bose thing and it's great. I have tried the noise cancellation headphones, and it showed me that Bose has real engineers working on their audio systems, though probably specializing in sanitation. I have faith that the Bose electronics are going to do the job and are going to allow us to listen to the 11 O'clock news - the true audiophile test - without having to crank the volume too loud, and will be great for DVD's and music of course. I don't care that it costs twice what it should - all good things cost - that's probably why they can afford to hire good sanitation engineer guys. I am no audiophile, but anyone appreciates a good stereo. I want the convenience, and I think I'll get it with this expensive Bose audio system.
I don't care if the speakers are made of paper and so forth and are worth $1.00 - after all, I'm a troll. Most products are like that. Probably the sanitation engineering is what makes these things sound so nice - and a good installation - I hope! I do like the marketing of this matched setup. I like the idea of the RF based remote. The other brands have goofy interfaces that actually work with universal remotes - bah. I like the proprietary, "can't ever upgrade" alternative. Don't care about their MP3 hard drive, but it's there I guess, it's a bonus. I guess I can always record the news on my radio, transfer the cassette to CD, load it into the Bose and play it back later. The speakers are small, so my wife won't think our livingroom has become a TV temple.
Now, having said all this - I haven't installed it yet - probably in the next 2 weeks I'll have the Bose audio system installed - clean install I hope. The small speakers will be mounted on the walls - and I'll get a consult from the installer about what TV to get and where to mount it. I'm thinking on the floor, but the wall might be better.
This is a weird way to enter your forum. I'll probably be asking you guys for some help on the LCD flatscreen and other things. If you're stupid, you'll answer as if I'm really not a troll. Please answer, my self esteem can't take rejection. And besides, I'll just re-register and try again.
My point that I'd like to get across is that as far as the Bose information on the public forums, I found it to be such a load of junk, that all the negativity about Bose actually caused me to go out and buy one! Clearly the facts and measurements are wrong and their advertising is what we should all trust.
People writing positive things about Bose on a forum seldom ever have personal experience of the product they are talking about. I have seen this before and it's a problem inherent to these public forums. Anyways, it's not such a big deal. They sounded great at the store - I hope they'll do the same in my parents' house. If not, I'll let you know! I doubt that I am making a mistake by "buying" the Bose, and to all the Bose bashers, unless you own the Bose lifestyle systems - your opinion is not so valuable to me - I am a troll.
Now to get them installed and to settle on whether to get a 1080p LCD and a Playstation 3 with built-in Blue Ray or just play with my Atari 2600 and post on some more internet threads about totally made up stuff.
I already made the Bose purchase, and I am pretty sure this system is going to sound a lot better than my previous systems - which was a clock radio and a Rubix cube.
If you have any positive advice that can help a troll like me - I'd like to hear about it on this thread I guess.
