Even if no one knows anything, could someone point me in the direction of a review? I've had a look but haven't been able to turn up much, except in french...

May I ask where you live and what is drawing you to this product.....?

Subwoofers are not rocket science, so there are a great many products that will easily compete or outperform that product for less money..... And actually have reviews to back them up....

Please don't get me wrong, I have always lusted after the Triangle Magellen series speakers, they look spectacular, but I have never heard them...

What is your room dimensions ?

What kind of setup are you looking to achieve here.... 2.0 or 5.1, 7.1 HT ?

Perhaps we can save you some money with some products that will get you what your looking for....

I live in Australia. What is drawing me to this subwoofer is that I can get for $900 aud, when the rrp over here is about 2300. I'll be using it in a small room for now, and I'm looking for 2.0

Cheers

Thanks very much for your thoughts, and for the links - I'll have a look into those two other subs!

No I haven't listened to the sub. Unfortunately, it is up in Sydney, and I am based in Melbourne, so it would have to be a blind buy.

I'd be using it basically just for music... I'm not sure if that makes a difference as to what sub I should be after?

Cheers

The OP sent me a link to the place he's looking at subs....
http://www.eastwoodhifi.com.au/specials.html

For 2 channel only scenario - I like sealed, but I think he'd be better off with something along the lines of perhaps the Def Tech Super Cube for its depth while still retaining its accuracy. As well as having a long history and reviews of their products...

They are a nice passive radiator design and covers the lower octaves better then that Triangle sealed unit...

Obviously I would also suggest that the OP listen to both to see if he prefers one over the other...

Thanks very much for your assistance Warpdrv, both via pm & in this thread. I have decided to branch out a little from eastwoodhifi, to a few online places that can ship to my area.

Another option has entered the fray - the Emotiva X-Ref 12 (http://emotiva.com/xref_sub12.shtm). A lot of people on Au forums are speaking very favourably about it. It costs $629 but Emotiva expressly ships to Australia and in total I would be looking at about $850 or so. What appeals to me about it is that it seems to be sealed & go down to 20hz. I have been thinking that really if I get a sub that does not go down to 20hz, I will need to upgrade it at some point - so I might as well get it right at the start.

Also, some specials on Velodyne subs are currently on: http://www.myav.com.au/epages/mymy7204.sf/en_AU/?ObjectPath=/Shops/didi6439/Categories/06

Any further thoughts? What appeals to me about the X-ref is that it is down to 20hz, whereas even the 12 velodynes are only down to 25hz?

Cheers

If it's anything like the last 12" emotiva sub:

I'd be pretty wary on what kind of frequency response i was ACTUALLY getting. It's easy for a sub to reproduce 10hz at 60db even. The question is at what SPL does its limiting circuitry kick in? That's going to change the tonal nature of what you hear, most likely.

Sorry GranteedEV, what do I read from that graph? is the fact that the lines aren't too closely together from 20-25hz or so an indicator that the performance may be less than optimal?

Edit: Also apparently the new subs are very different to the old ones - you can compare specs here:

It's that "it goes down to 20 Hz" but only has a flat response curve at low volumes. When you start increasing the volume, it just can't keep up on the low end. SPL at 50+ Hz scales up fairly well, but below 40 Hz the sub just lacks any linearity at all, that 20 Hz -3dB point becomes more like 40 Hz with the volume up. Tiny subs just can't do 20 Hz at volume.
