This is an opnion. Your opinion is valid, and I can't disagree with it.

However, in the eyes of the law - which is what we are discussing - everyone has the same freedom of speech, regardless of whether they've served in the military or not.
I made the,
"He walked the walk.
He can talk the talk." statement because,
personally, I put more stock in what a "Doer" like gus6464 says.
Than what a Limousine Liberal,"Hand Wringer" like Nancy Pelosi says.
We all know when I typed IMHO, it had nothing to do with how the laws
of the USA are written.

I think the president has a lot more to do with writing legislation than he really should. I mean, let's say you are a member of congress and the president himself comes to you to ask you to draft a bill that would do this or that towards his agenda, tell me you wouldn't jump at the chance to get on his good side. For example, how many of the candidates that are currently running for president aren't talking about this legislation that they would like to introduce for tax cuts or housing relief? The president's job was not originally intended to have anything to do with legislation except for enforcing it. The veto power was given to keep congress in check and not let anything that would be out of line from getting through. This has changed substantially in the past 231 years.
Very good point and it makes an important assumption. The general population are morons. However, this is no different than how things are now except at least something would get done.

Things about Iraq we didn't know, because our media wouldn't tell us.
I guess it's not part of their agenda.

Did you know that 96% of Iraqi children under the age of 5
have received the first, 2 series of polio vaccinations?

Did you know that 4.3 million Iraqi children were
enrolled in primary school by mid October?

Did you know that 47 countries have re - established
their embassies in Iraq ?

Did you know that the Iraqi government
currently employs 1.2 million Iraqi people?

Did you know that 3100 schools have been renovated,
364 schools are under rehabilitation,
263 new schools are now under construction
and 38 new schools have been completed in Iraq ?

Did you know that Iraq's higher educational
structure consists of 20 Universities,
46 Institutes or colleges and 4 research centers,
all currently operating?

Did you know that the Iraqi Navy is operational?
They have five - 100 - foot patrol craft, 34 smaller vessels
and a naval infantry regiment.

Did you know that Iraq's Air Force consists of three operational squadrons,
which includes 9 reconnaissance and 3 C-130 transport aircraft
(under Iraqi operational control)
which operate day and night, and will soon add
16 UH -1 helicopters and 4 Bell Jet Rangers?

Did you know that Iraq has a counter - terrorist
unit and a Commando Battalion?

Did you know that the Iraqi Police Service has over 55,000
fully trained and equipped police officers?

This isn't about how much stock we put in opinions.

It's about charges of treason. I put no stock in anything Pelosi has to say. Virtually all of the **** that comes out of her mouth is worthless drivel.

However, I don't think someone needs to say something smart or worthwhile for it to be worth protecting.

The speech we disagree with is the speech we most need to protect.

Good point, LOL...

The solution is really simply, but would be painful to do. But with a trillion dollars already spent, I'm not so sure. Get out of the Middle East. I used to work with Prof. at Harvard who said all we need is two areas about 100 miles squared full of solar panels in the Mojave Desert and that would power the entire US. Lots of oil companies would lay workers off, but they would find new jobs. Hanging onto oil today when so many doable alternatives is the same as siding with horse/chariots and candles back 100 years ago.
Uh...no. Not only no, but hell no. I don't know where your Professor buddy got his data from, but 100 sq. miles of solar energy is nowhere near enough to power the entire US. Solar Energy is currently economically not viable as a stand-alone source of power, due to its inherent inefficiency. It is only useful as supplemental power to existing grids, and therefore only really adds more cost per KWh to the consumer, without providing a clean break into clean, renewable sources of energy. The technology continues to improve, but as for now - guess again amigo.

I work for the power industry, by the way. ;)

Rickster, that's all good, but none of it helps our bridges and schools which are falling apart. And how long will it last really...

I probably remembered incorrectly or misunderstood. Ok, then put up some nuke plants as well. While we're at it, institute a building code that requires all new homes, commercial buildings to have solar panels installed and attach it all to the grid.

P.S. His name is Prof. Daniel Schrag (Harvard University) in case anyone wants to read his data and refresh my memory with what he said :D

The funny thing about all this is that most of these politicians that voice their opinions have yet to set foot in Iraq. That is my biggest critique about the Democrats. They all can't seem to shut their mouths about it, but yet have absolutely no first hard experience with what's going on out there.

Although we have come a long way in training the Iraqi Army, we still have a long way to go. Most people just can't understand that it is a lot harder than they think to train an army. I can see ourselves being out there for a very long time. When I was deployed there were rumors of turning Iraq into the new Kuwait as a lot of our bases in Kuwait are closing down. I can easily see Baghdad turning into the Middle East command center with the amount of money we have spent. The infrastructure we are putting down on certain areas if just too big to just pull out and leave it all. You just don't put down a fully fiber optic backbone to just leave it all to the Iraqi.

It's not that easy. Lots of places have very little capacity to generate solar energy.

The transmission and storage technology simply isn't there. And who is going to maintain the trillions of dollars of equipment you want to deploy on these buildings? Let the owners just "take care of it"? How will you enforce production?

Solar power is incredibly expensive next to the sources that we use now.

This is totally OT though. Start another thread if you want to talk about power production.

Good point so I won't reply, but we've been somewhat off topic since the start :D Flame on about Pelosi!

It's coming, don't worry ;) - I don't want to carry this thread any further off topic, but power production isn't as inter-related to our oil dependency as our basic fuel needs for transportation. That's the meal-ticket right there; come up with a viable source of transportation fuel (so far hydrogen/bio-fuel has not been able to compete), and we can tell the entire region to keep their damn oil. But alas, for now... alas.

Anyway, anyway, anyway... back to bashing (I mean discussing) Pelosi! :D

It's refreshing to have a good debate with people who explain their positions rather than most of the morons I deal with daily who take positions without even knowing why.

I agree - it's been nice to get 20 pages into this and not be at each other's throats too. Politics always brings out the beast in people. This is what I would call a good, spirited, intelligent debate.
