I just got my BD last night and watched it.

True, I haven't seen my HD-DVD since I sold it, but the BD seemed to sound MUCH better!! It even seemed to look brighter and more detailed than I remember. Transformers was one of the first HD-DVD's we watched after getting the TV calibrated, and I HATED how dark the movie looked. Now the dark scenes weren't nearly as objectionable. Maybe I'm just used to my TV now.

But anyway, I thought it sounded great. The only weird thing is that the robots voices came out of all 3 front speakers, not just the center. Sounded kinda weird. Is it supposed to be this way??

I was thinking the exact same thing!

I'm so used to the dialogues being more focused and coming out of the Center speaker and to hear voices coming out from all 3 front speakers was kind of a distraction for me. It made we wonder if the soundfield was messed up or something. During actions scenes, I thought the HUMAN voices were kind of hard to hear at times.

I had some grain during the dark scenes but there's probably just a setting on my PS3 and/or projector that I overlooked or incorrectly checked.

Yep, hard to tell what the voices are supposed to sound like unless you know what the voices sounded like on the mixing and mastering stages or at a certified theater. Memory fades quickly.

Okay, so the last 4 BDs I watched included Dark City, The Bank Job, Prison Break Season 3, and Heroes Season 2. I thought all of these had outstanding sound quality. Crystal clear sound, awesome dialogue from center channel, awesome bass.

Then tonight I just watched Transformers BD. My impression: What the Heck?

Just like the HD DVD version, it had plenty of scenes with massive subsonic bass. But a lot of bass doesn't make it great IMO. Like the HD DVD, I thought the overall sound quality was "compressed" or something. The dialogue was not as crystal clear as the other movies I recently watched.

And there were still scenes that just didn't make audible sense to me. Like when Blackout attacked the military base in the beginning. That huge blast he made that shattered the glass? Was there suppose to be some massive outrageous bass to accompany that

So I guess I'll be the first person to say that I thought Transformers BD sucked on the sound quality.

Rather than having the bass going to a discrete LFE channel during the pulse scene in the first 10 minutes, the bass goes through the mains. (WTF has a center that goes below 40 much less 30 Hz?) So, it may be due to your setup.

I just saw "Pride & Prejudice" HD DVD a few days ago. I think the sound quality was like Transformers.

The sound quality of P&P is one of the most underrated discs out there.

My Front Left & Right was measured by HTM to be 22 Hz - 20 kHz +/-3dB & 21 Hz @ -6dB. And they only set the subwoofer dial on the BP7000SC to 10 o'clock. I set my BP7000SC to 11 o'clock.

My Front Center and Surround Left & Right were measured by Tom Nousaine to be 28 Hz - 20 kHz +/-3dB and 27 Hz -20 kHz +/-3dB, respectively.

My setup is Full Range Large Speakers 20 Hz - 20 kHz every channel + Subwoofer (Source Direct Mode).

But I also messed around with the setup (small speakers, 80 Hz crossover, etc.).

I just watched Pathfinder Blu-ray on my new PJ. I think the sound quality is much better than Transformers.

With the exception of Die Hard 2 DTS-MA, I'm pretty impressed with DTS-MA movies so far.

There is just something "strange" with the SQ of Transformers. Some parts sound fantastic, while some parts just don't make sense.

So, if you have your crossover set to 80hz, your speakers set to small, and the pulse sound not going to the sub, wouldn't it stand to reason that you wouldn't hear it?

I've watched it 2 1/2 times now. It happened to be on HBO while I was in the hotel, so I watched it again... I don't see what the big deal is? There was nothing particularly impressive about this movie. It is OK, not spectacular.

It's not a terrific movie really, but it has three things going for it.

1.) Cool special effects
2.) Giant robots cartoons from (many of) our childhoods turned loose on the big screen.
3.) Megan Fox

Megan Fox isn't enough to float the whole movie for me...almost, but not quite It is a FUN movie, but to me, little more than FX and flash than anything (like I said earlier, a Michael Bay movie).

I just wathced this last night on BD. Basically it's brainless crap, but very entertaining brainless crap. I really enjoyed it. The robots talking through the fronts didn't bother me at all, I felt it added to the ambience by making them sound that much larger. There are a few oddities in the soundtrack where the actors sound kind of far away or something, not an A+ for audio, but maybe a B-, still not too bad. This isn't the kind of movie that you watch to see reallity or even great acting, it's the king you just relax and go with and have a good time. (And I did).

I agree completely.

I think my problem was reading all these BD reviews giving it a ***** Five Star "REFERENCE" quality AUDIO rating!

I think if I did not have such high expectations (through the roof), I would not be so let down, which is the case with anything else.

I thought both the HD DVD and Blu-ray Audio versions were the same quality, which is still good, but not Reference Quality.

Hey, am I wrong in thinking that Optimus Prime is one of the strongest Transformers strength-wise?

IOW, if Prime fought Megatron just hand-to-hand without weapons, Prime would simply kick his a$$?
