Sometimes when I am driving long distance I will find a trance or dance station on xm radio, pop an ephedrine, drink a rock star, and speed my way down the interstate at 3am, I would like to know what is the best of the best of that category so I can try it on the home system :)

I really don't know how to categorize techno music but if you're ready to shell 75$ on a 9-tracks CD, then you MUST check for Growling Mad Scientists (GMS). Album is called No Rules. That's the only CD that can make me put the pedal to the metal. After 6 years of driving I thought I could control myself, but not for that CD :p

Anything from "ministry of sound", or the chemical brothers. Ministry of sound is a compilation CD that comes out yearly. I also love most of DJ Tiesto's stuff.

You should check out Tiesto, Armin Van Buuren, Paul Van Dyk, Infected Mushroom (you can get some of their cd free on downloads.com) and Clubbers Guide or The Annuals collections from each year by MOS are great. Just make sure you get the European versions. The american ones aren't as good imop.:)

Don't get caught with ephedrine. It is illegal in many states now (including Oklahoma, where I live.)
My favorites in the Trance Dance category include the Higher Intelligence Agency, Banco De Gaia, and Goldfrapp.

Being from South Beach, I can probably help you with this. ;)

Electronic music is a massive genre with all kinds of variety. Just about anyone can find something they like in it, but it takes some searching. Trance has gotten kinda stale, but house (funky, progressive, bangin', downtempo, and many other subgenres of it) is big now... and stuff like dubstep is growing (and amazing)...

Here is a mix I have on my shell account (don't worry, it's free for download, so, no laws broken here):
Gabriel & Dresden - Organized Nature 2007-11-02

Mixes are the way to go (mix cds, downloaded mixes from the 'net, etc.)... because the way the DJ builds the mix is a big part of the impact in electronic music. Increasing intensity, track selection, playing with levels, peaking. A lot of DJs have radio shows for download, also check out houseaddict.com ... I get a lot of mixes from there.

Mixes are the way to go, tracks alone don't do electronic music any justice, but I attached some samples anyways since I had some stuff saved in my YouTube directy. I've seen just about every one of these guys live, house music is something that needs to be played LOUD and POWERFULLY.

You might want to check out:

Robbie Rivera
(Funky House) ....rrooocckkkksss....

Oscar G: (House) ... Oscar G rocks the house every single time.
@ Space:

Gabriel & Dresden (Progressive House):

Deep Dish (Progressive House): "Flashdance" ... a classic, great riff, amazing in a nightclub

Eric Prydz (House) The "Proper Education" track is amazing...

You'd probably like Brian Cox, which plays a genre often called bangin' house:

David Guetta: (House)

David Guetta's F**k Me I'm Famous parties are so much fun:

LOL. Yes, techno will do that. I have a lot of Tiesto's stuff and I enjoy all of it. You might also like ATB, Prodigy, BT (in particular Movement in Still Life), Rabbit in the Moon (who mainly does a lot of remixes for others), Crystal Method (Vegas). I also love most of Orbital's stuff.

I don't know if it is still available, but Pulse by Streetbeat Records is one of my all-time favorite trance CD's. I believe it has a picture of a heart on the cover. It's old, but I still listen to it every once in a while.

j_garcia: Tiesto isn't techno. ;) But big up on the Prodigy recommendation. I love Prodigy. Crystal Method is great too, talk about subbass!!! "Vegas" should be REQUIRED for subwoofer setup. ;) The tracks High Roller, Busy Child and She's my Pusher... whoa! I like the Crystal Method CD "Tweekend" too... The Name of the Game is a classic.

Yeah. Electronic music is a totally different reproduction than acoustic music (well, if you want to call most records now days that...). Bigger the bass, the better. Have fun with it, get a giant sub and crank the bass, and make you're listening room sound like a nightclub. ;) I typically run just my M&K K-10 sub with my Sunfire True Sub muted for most music, but when I throw on dubstep or anything electronic the Sunfire gets turned on.

You ever heard of dubstep? That's what I've been digging lately. The "base" of the music is in the "bass" ... so a large subwoofer or two (or ten) is basically a must.

For those interested in dubstep, check out this intro to it:

I think BBC did it.

It's one of those things you have to hear on a big system, so, if you guys want a mix let me know and I'll post one that's legal for you guys to demo on your setup. Little computer speakers with YouTube quality doesn't let you hear it .;)

ATB's "Trilogy" album has great production, and IMO, hangs with SACDs. The quality is really good.

I'm a Tiesto fan, but Sunrise 6 sucked! A lot of bland tracks.

A somewhat obscure electronic CD that I have always liked is Colorform by Higher Intelligence Agency.

Hehehe. ATB isn't really techno either, but the comment was directed more at the fact that bass heavy electronic music will often show you just how good or bad your sub is :)

TCM's Vegas IS a required album IMO, but Tweekend and Legion of Boom weren't too bad; just not quite as good as Vegas. The DVD-A of Legion of Boom features a 6.1 dts-ES track in addition to the DVD-A (5.1) tracks and both sound great!

Haha, yeah, plus ATB sucks. So much cheese I'm suprised they can even press the vinyl. ;)

I want to check out the Legion of Boom DVD-A. That's gotta be massive.

The trouble with using big band stuff or dubstep to test subwoofers is they always leave you wanting more :D You'll end up building bass bins in you're bloody garage. Haha.

That's actually one of the things I really like about electronic music, is that the sound system plays into the music as much as the music. For example, with Drum and Bass and the stuff that's spurring now, it kind of pulled the reggae idea of the "soundsystem" ... whereas they made Valve (96kW soundsystem, I believe, 52 multi-driver horn loaded bass bins) and a bunch of other mind-numbing experiences. The evolution of amazing sound reinforcement really is on the forefront of dancefloors... Phazon's job doing Club Space here in Miami comes to mind (http://www.phazon.com/ check the gallery, that's rooms in Space), but there are a billion examples of really pushing that envelope.... from professional companies to some DnB guys like Valve was made buy (they stayed up for 5 days straight making their high & midrange wideband speakers originally). There's that sound system culture in electronic music, but it's not all that different than what we talk about on this site. At heart, I think most people are a "slave to the dark beat" ... to steal from Oscar G. ;)

Watch this video on Valve... 8min... worth you're time:

I mean, I don't see much of a difference between what D was saying versus...say...the DIY forum here. ;) or the subwoofer forum. ;) But they admit they just have fun with it... that's the beauty.

The Valve soundsystem has actually made some clubs close for a bit due to structural damage. Literally crumbling the building apart.
