Towers In The Rear??

For all feed back . . . . . I'm currently running an Onkyo 703 with a pair of Boston Acoustics CR 65s up front (inside the wall system flanking a Sony Wega 36", my center is a Polk CS1, and my intent is to put in the Polk M20 Towers in the rear......as opposed to hanging some Bose Jewel Cubes in the rear. (I don't really want to hang anything up on the wall although the height should really enhance rear audio) The towers would solve my problem with hanging audio from the walls. Feedback?? By the way I'm running a Velodyne DSP 10 sub, so my bottom end is covered.

I've run tower's in the rear and it is perfectly fine. All you'll want to make sure of is that they are tall enough for the midrange and tweeter not to be blocked by any furniture.

I used to have my Definitive Technology BP10's as my main speakers up front. I upgraded to some Montana SPX's and am now using the BP10' in the rear and they working just fine until I can purchase another pair of Montana SPX to match the one's I have up front.

If they are two short, and they are behind something... Use a cinderblock to lift them up. Cinderblocks are the perfect speaker stands:)

So then you'll have towers and cinderblocks in the rear? And I thought just towers in the rear would hurt... :D -TD

Towers in the rear.......I didn't get that at first either. LOL.....
What's even funnier is the cinder blocks....hmmm.....not too sure about that one.
I will make certain there's no furniture blocking the twin towers and I'll watch for low flying commercial airlines.
.....but I gotta ask you guys ........ cinder blocks??? Inside the house???
sort of ah, pre fab look hunh? No offense but I'll pass on that one for now.
Great idea though :p

stack some books up under them until you get a sound you like or the speakers are elevated properly. then get someone to make some kind of stand for it at home depot or something.

towers all around is actually better than having towers in front and small speakers in back, because it gives you an equal sound. small wall speakers are overused and are just sold if there's not enough space back there. one could argue that di/bi polar speakers add more to the sound than towers, but if you're listening to 5.1 music those just screw it all up.

Sourround channels

Bookshelf speakers on stands would probably work just as well for the surround channels if you have them crossed over at 80 Hz by your receiver. Either way, you will have much better performance than the Bose cubes.

That's a little sick. You should grow up.

Dear OP,

Please ignore my evil twin brother. There is nothing wrong with towers for rears as long as the mids & tweeters are high enough to get over any furniture ect that may be in the way as others have said. I wouldn't go with cinder blocks either, even though they would work great. No WAF at all though. I'm sure you could find some nice wood at Home Depot or Lowes to make a stand out of.

Have a Merry Christmas.

Some people claim that having the same speaker all the way around is the only way to go. It is the only way to achieve a perfectly tone matched setup.

Nope, there is no problem putting mains in the back, a little overkill though.
