If i am planning of running my current sub. and always use it. it is not necessary to have towers up front. the Paradigm Studio 40 seem like a very nice 3 driver system. how do the studio 40 compare to the B&W 603 s3. thanks again.

At that pricepoint, Paradigm has the edge. As I mentioned in your other thread, Monitor Audio will smoke them both in the $1000-$1500 range.(IMO)

Monitor Audio Gold series will. I don't know about the Silver series. That would be a close one.

Well, I was thinking the RS6 would smoke the Paradigm 40's. I like them better. I did recommend to audition both in the other thread.;)

I don't think the 603's have a chance here. However, I have yet to hear the new 600 line-up. They may trump them all. I do prefer the upper-end B&W, but my wallet doesn't.

"Smoke them" is a strong statement. I really wanted to like the MA's but I just didnt like the sound of them. I have a great connection for them and can get them dirt cheap(example is the RS6 for 600 bucks) but they were just not for me. I listened to the golds and silvers.

I really liked the 40's and was able to get them for 1K which made the choice quite simple. If I had to pay the extra 400 bucks maybe that would have changed things.

I really like the Paradigm Studio 40's. But at a price point of $1400 a pair there is a lot of other speakers on the market to consider.

Like these. Never heard them, or any others from Salk.

Or the SVS MTS-01 towers.

Greg,

How would paying 400 dollars would of changed things. would it of turned off to another pair of Paradigm or just a total brand of speakers.

I have a old pair of Paradigm studio monitor towers that i will be running of an old Yamaha HTR receiver.

I am not saying it would have prevented me from getting the 40's but I would have continued to look some more.

As a general rule, towers give you fuller sound than bookshelves. Plus, going with towers also means you don't have to shell additional money to buy stands for the bookshelves, which can be quite expensive.

In my travels....I've been more disappointed in floorstanders than I ever have in bookshelves. You never expect much in a bookend, yet when you get aroused you wonder if anyone is looking.
