Guys tought decision for me. First home theatre system. I am not to worried about the extra money but what will I as a relative novice be getting if I buy the 1015 over the 815. Just concerned I will be paying extra for items I cannot use at this point. Now maybe 10 years down the road if I move into a bigger house but that is a while.

Have you seen each unit in person? Go take a look, and actually lift them. There is a huge difference in weight. Go with the 1015 if you can afford it. Can't beat a rebadged Elite for the price.

Not a tough decision

This is not a really tough decision if you have narrowed your choices down to these two. The Pioneer line from 51x to 91x are very similar products and are very good for their intended target. They are share a lot of the same components and just increase in features as you go up the line. The 1015 is another story all together. It is a rebadged Elite unit intended for sale at the big box stores and is light years better than the previously mentioned models. It is THX select 2 certified for one. Go for the 1015 by all means.

Yeah no comparison, the 1015tx wins by a huge margin in all aspects. Get the 1015tx and you'll have something that will last for a long time.

What are you driving?

Have you decided on speakers? If you plan to use small HTIB style satellite speakers or have a minimal speaker budget, then go for the cheeper receiver.
Yes, the 1015 is a big step up from the 815 and has more features and power for about twice the cost. However, upgrading to the 1015 will not improve the performance of a set of Bose satellite speakers.

I have to say I upgraded my receiver and am running my old sattelite speakers still and it does improve performance, I was actually amazed at how much more I could hear in a movie with the 1015tx vs. my old sony receiver.

To add to the excellent comments already here:

with the 1015 you also get:
- on screen display (neato but not required)
- video up-conversion (if you ever plan on driving a projector or a nice TV of any sort using component video, but still have composite or s-video inputs from other devices I highly suggest this feature)
- in addition to the auto-setting of levels which the 815 gives you, the 1015 also adds a auto customizable parametric equalizer, which may help to make your speakers sound a tad nicer in your room.

Your money but its the way I'm going when my new HT room is done.

Lets chant together now, 1015, 1015, 1015... :D

Yeah, 1015 for sure... I've got all kinds of buyer's remorse for going with the 814 instead of the 1014 when I had the chance.

I think it's amazing how much of a following the 1015tx has gotten since its release not that long ago

Spiffy,
You upgraded from a Sony HTIB receiver to the 1015tx. NOT from a 815tx to a 1015tx. I would argue that the 815tx is vastly superior to your old Sony and your comparison is not valid. If you have speakers that can only handle 30 Watts, then a more powerful receiver will only aid in your ability to blow out the cheap speakers. Also, the 200+ price difference in the receivers could be used for better speakers.

well first off they are max 100 watts I think, so there's no chance they are going to blow out. Miss read your post as saying that no matter what receiver you used you can't improve the sound of sattelite speakers which in my experience was completely false. And really adding an extra 200 dollars to a speaker budget isnt really going to add that much, but adding 200 dollars to a receiver budget by getting a top of the line model this is a lot better in every aspect than the 815. I'm not playing down the 815 at all, it is a great receiver, but if his budget allows the 1015 its well worth the extra money.

Try finding them online. Many places are on backorder. I can't imagine what that unit did to Yamaha 5860 and 5890 sales, sitting next to each other in Best Buy. The 1015 is on backorder at Best Buy online.

In my best buy they were on opposite sides of the audio dept. About 40 feet from each other probably for good reason, only problem is they arent hooked up to anything, they just sit there on a shelf, dont know how anyone could be a receiver like that if they didnt know anything about it. Thats why I had the guy there take it down and hook it up to speakers to play with

Dear Best Buy and Pioneer Gods of Marketing:

Just because you can't keep the the 1015 on the shelves, don't get greedy and raise the price...

... at least until after I've purchased mine... :D

Where should I look to get the best price on the 1015? A buddy is looking for something decent and not too expensive, and he mentioned the 1015.

www.jr.com had it for the best price when you call their phone number to order, $430 shipped, but I'm pretty sure all of the online places are backordered now, so your best bet is to head to ur nearest bestbuy and see what they can do.
