No worries, this is just one of those hotly debated details which in the end is of little consequence. I don't believe anyone thinks of it like a car engine where you don't want to set the cruise control and spend the first 8 hours on the interstate at a fixed RPM.
Any music offers a good variation of frequencies and amplitudes.
The theory is that the materials are stiff and will loosen with use. There are also some similar notions for the electrical components (right or wrong).
If you subscribe to break-in (and why not?), louder would break in faster, but you wouldn't want to go too loud and abuse them.
Of course it makes an elegant argument to say, "Break them in at the level you listen. It may take a little longer, but they will be broken with the extension profile of your own listening habits".
Just use 'em, enjoy 'em, and if they seem to sound better down the road, so much the better!
