This is pretty good, not great, but well worth a view if you like big FX and sci-fi. The second version of Philip K D!ck's (you can't spell his name on this web site) story, "We Can Remember if for You Wholesale", this one is heavily dependent on FX and heavy action to carry the story. There's not much intellectual banter about Dickean ideas like virtual, uncertain reality, incompetent technology and oppressive future government, but it's all there visually.
It's set in the Blade Runner world, including a chilly and always rainy Australia, not unlike the climate-altered LA of Blade Runner. Hints of other D!ck-inspired movies abound, multiple reversals of what is real, and lots of sexy violence by slinky females (Kate Beckinsale and Jessica Biel) keep things moving. Colin Farrell is as good as he needs to be (considering the meager dialog) and the other cast members are as good as they need to be, but the action and FX are the real stars. It's enjoyable if you don't expect too much.
