I opened my mailbox yesterday and found a small package from Toshiba.

"What the hell is this?", I wondered.

It turns out they had sent me a disc for the 2.0 firmware update for my HD-A3. I don't know what it does, but that's pretty cool of Toshiba to continue to support a product they have given up on.

That is very nice of them. You can also check for FW updates on their website, and download the image file, burn to cd, and upgrade yourself, or just keep the player connected to the internet and it should notifiy you of new updates.

If you haven't loaded that firmware yet you might check over at the AVS forums to make sure it doesn't cause any problems. I don't remember the specifics, but the last update for the A35 caused some problems so I haven't loaded it onto my machine.

Aside from that I do agree with your original point, it is nice that they continue to support these machines.

Too late. I loaded it last night. One thing that did seem to be an improvement, is that it seems to go from "play" to "FF" or "Rew" a little faster than it did before. Before the update, I would push "FF", wait about 5 seconds, then it would start to FF. Now it seems to do it after about a second or two. It still takes forever to begin playing again after fast forwarding. But, whatever. I hardly ever use the thing anyway.
