Toshiba DVD help

I have a Toshiba DVD recorder. It's probably 5+ years old. When ever I put in a disk. Any disk new,old,copy. The sreen reads. Cannot read disk. Disk may need cleaning or is damaged. What could be wrong?

Perhaps the lens for the laser got dirt or dust on it? They sell lens cleaning discs. I've never used one, though, so I can't tell you much about them.

If you are handy, unplug the player, pull the cover and have a look with a magnifying glass for the lens condition. If it is clean, you have lens issues, new player time
