Torn between Subwoofer Choices..Help!

So..I was pretty much set on getting a BIC H-100, but now I'm not so sure I want to do that.

The room I'm putting it in is pretty large (about 25x25x8') and from what I've been reading, the BIC seems barely sufficient..if sufficient at all.
Then, I started reading on another forum (AVS) and everyone there seems to love the eD A2-300 that happens to be on sale right now. So would the BIC be sufficient in my room? Cause if it's just there to create a weak little rumble, I'm not sure I even want to spend the money on it...but the A2-300 is getting a little pricey for me, although I haven't completely given up on it because of the expense.

The BIC is looking like it'll cost around $250 and the A2-300 exactly $315

That is a fairly large room for either of those subwoofers. IMO

I think your going to need pairs of either one of your choices to fill that size of room.

If your willing to buy used, you can get a lot more sub for your money.

HSU STF-3 for $400

I have not had personal experience with this, but what is most often recommended in the price range you are looking at is:

Dayton HT Series SUB-120 12" 150 Watt Powered Subwoofer $155.23

That's one of the two subs that he was looking at yesterday. Still a good recommendation.

The Dayton Sub costs more than $50 to ship :(
It bothers me to think that shipping and handling will be 25% of the total cost...so i decided not to get the dayton. should I reconsider? I'm willing to pay for the BIC if it's worth it, but the eD is where it gets iffy. 2 of the dayton's will definitely be too expensive

Wow, that is a big percentage of the cost! I was thinking that another member said that the shipping on that same sub was only $25. Probably depends on where you live, I suppose. I can completely understand that.

As has been mentioned around here, the thing to focus on is the total cost of the unit versus the performance. "Free" shipping is never actually free, after all. It just means that someplace is charging more for the sub to begin with.

Yeah I know what you mean about the free shipping. I just figured a flat rate for shipping beats having expensive shipping just because you live further :( I was completely ready to buy the dayton too..put it in my cart and everything..then the shipping cost scared me away

Is the dayton worth paying over $200? I can only get one...

Shipping is slightly cheaper if you buy it from Parts Express through Amazon.

You could always contact Parts Express and see if they'd swing you a discount on shipping. Perhaps you could offer to buy two of them and see if they'd do anything. I know that's more than you're looking to spend, but you could see what they'd offer. It might just be worth it.

94539...west coast/bay area basically as far as it gets

I actually considered the cadence subwoofer since it was similar to the BIC, but I opted for the BIC because it seems to be backed by a lot more people- probably because it's been on the market longer..tried and true.

From what I'm seeing, I guess the eD sub isn't worth spending the extra 65?

$52.90 to ship to you for a total of $208.13 So for $71 more you can get the Cadence shipped free.

Dealer locator Cadence:
California Car Sounds
1030 Florence Way
Campbell, CA 95008
408-378-0409
About: 16 miles

The actual specs are about the same, warranty is 2 years on Cadence. The web site and the spec details look better on the Cadence site. However, I have not had personal experience with eitehr of thes subs, Mazersteven has suggested both as good subs and he gives excellent advice. If you can go the extra $71 you might want to consider the Cadence CSX-12. ( If the price is the same you could drive over and pick the Cadence up! :))

Good luck

To further MidCow2's comparison - if Cadence has a distributor in your state (which they apparently do), you'll probably need to pay tax on the Cadence sub. Just a thought.

Depending on where you live, if in the US, eD is located in IA, and they ship their a2-300 for free to the Continental US. The a2-300 is $315 shipped, I recently order a pair of them for my HT, I got their new matte finish for an extra $35 per sub and shipped it was $670, I hope its enough sub for my HT.

Keep a watch on Fleabay as well as Amazon. PE sells slightly damaged and refurbed units (with a reserve unlike Harman) often.

Why not save a bit more until you hit $400 and get an SVS PB10?

Vantastic,

I know that shipping charges are a pain and nobody wants to feel like they got hosed on shipping. That being said you really need to focus on the quality of the products and how they are going to fill that huge room first. Not to mention you are trying to pressurize a HUGE room with very little $$$. I live in Alaska so shipping a decent sub to me was anywhere from $200 to $340. Thats just the price of doing buisness when you want to go internet direct. Otherwise you can go pay a lot more at Best Buy for a name brand model and get a lot less performance than the ID guys will give you.

Just my opinion, and after all we are talking less than 100 bucks. Wouldn't that piss you off if down the road you realize you coulda had a better speaker for less than $100 more?
