Took the Axiom-Yamaha plunge

I wanted to let everyone know that I ordered the Axiom M60 speakers today and I will be getting the Yamaha HTR-5890 to go with them. My setup is fairly temporary since I am renting an apartment (no permanent installations, no place to properly rack mount equipment, speaker wire length not set in stone), so I got the Axiom bulk speaker cable and GLS Audio Locking Banana plugs to build my speaker wires. Will follow up with how things work out.

Oh man, every day will seem like an eternity till the stuff gets here. Now if I could only corece all my neighbors to move out by the time the stuff arrives....
Cheers.

PS. Afterthought, I can update my signature and become somewhat respectable !!!

Awesome setup. Anticipation is a killer, isn't it?

Very nice setup, and you'll have no trouble getting the neighbors to move once you hook it all up.

Everythings here

I bought the receiver last night ($575 + tax) and the speakers just got delivered. Boy does it all look good. Cant wait to get it all hooked up and pounding. Will be back to tell everyone how it went. If I dont get back in a couple of weeks assume I am lost in the sound and cant get myself away :)

Good stuff !

There is nothing quite like opening new boxes of STUFF and wiring it all up then relaxing to some good music or a movie.

Post your thoughts, and congrats in a great system !

Initial thoughts - the speakers rock.

First off I am running a 2.0 setup only. No money to get the other stuff just yet :( So I am primarly listening to CD music. Also I have not yet gotten familiar with the amp so I am still playing around with the audio settings.

Speakers:
I have listened to Tool, Jack Johnson, Phantom of the Opera and some other music. All I can say is WOW!!! The speakers are so clear in the higher frequencies and tight in the lower. The cymbals and crashes seem like they are being struck behind the speaker. No boomy/ bloated thumping bass. It is tight and believable. The bass does lack impact though, next investment will have to be a subwoofer. Even then at high listening levels, if I close my eyes I can almost believe that the drummer is sitting in the room.

Amplifier:
I have such limited utility for the amp, that I am not able to do justice to its capabilities. Using just a 2.0 setup, it sounds really good. That is all I can say. The "universal" remote given with the amp seems buggy. I was not able to find a code for my VCR and the skip function for the DVD never got mapped to the source keys (Yammy users will know what I mean). Need to find more time with this beast.
