Too many surround speakers!

I have a Sony 897 7.1 receiver. My problem is that I 4 surround speakers (2 for front speakers and two for surround (all 4 are Klipsch Quintets), 1 subwoofer, and 1 center channel.

The receiver has yet another set of surround posts availble for 7.1 installation, so which do I use (wouldn't that be 5.1)? Use the Side Surrounds or the Back Surrounds? It appears as if I can turn one set of them off.

Thanks in advance!

'Side surrounds' are the the speakers that go to your sides for 5.1. 'Rear surrounds' are the speakers that go behind you for 7.1. You only have 5.1 speakers so you should hook up the sides to the 'side surrounds' terminals.

It might provide a second zone...like most receivers with 7.1 you can use the rear sur. outputs for a second zone...ie. 2 speakers outside.

Hope that helps

I have the Sony 995, not the the 997, but the application "should" be the same. The manual for this one tells us to use the Surround Back if you are only going to have one set of surround speakers for the main HT.
