Well guys its been a lil while since Ive posted. More or less cause I havent had money to spend on the system and its depressing looking at all youre nice systems. Well Im back and I have a question. I want to start upgrading the system and I want to start with the DVD player. Now Im just wondering is it worth it to get a bad *** DVD player like the Denon 3910 or should I wait for Blu-Ray? Any thoghts are as always apreciated.

Thanks,
Sean

P.S. I missed you guys

Your DVD player seems pretty nice. Unless you need DVD-A, SACD, video scaling, or some other feature it doesn't support I'd just wait for a while. Not to mention, Denon probably has new their DVD players coming out soon as well.

Always upgrade ;) As far as your cable choice, uhmm, a little overboard with the expensive Monster....
DVD player, well the 3910 is nice. What exactly are you looking for in a dvd player. The format war, may take more time than what you are willing to wait for. There are going to be players that will be able to play both formats (personally, I would wait for those players)
Are you looking for connections? Upconverting? What kinda budget, clearly the 3910 is high budget, are you willing to go that high?
By the rest of your system, I am assuming you would. But would you prefer best bang for buck?

I'm just rambling. Also you may want to wait for Tom, Clint, and Gene to finish at the Cedia show. They may have some new contenders coming out that may be worth a look.

Well Im just not happy with my DVD player. Its nice but I know it can be better and Im willimg to spend the money to get it. I use my theater A LOT and notice very small details in the performance of my system. I would really like to get a DVD player with either HDMI or DVI out. Also I dont need SACD or DVD-A support but it would be nice. I duno I guess well see theres other things in the system that I need more. Such as a center channel a sub and a new TV after that Ill see where were at and probably buy something just cause. As far as the monster goes its just speaker wire it wasnt to expensive I think the connectors were more. The wire is eh but I like the connectors a lot and the rest of the cables are Blue Jeans Cable wich are AMAZING.

Thanks for the replys,
Sean

For relatively little money, you can get a DVD player that will hold you over till the HD-DVD wars are over and the price drops to a "sane" level. Try the NeuNeo HVD2085 High Definition DVD Player. Less than $300.

I too want to upgrade to a DVI output player and think this might be a good option. I have an older Yamaha DVD-CX1 that will retire to the bedroom.

I would have suggested that to him, but I figured he wanted high end. But for bang for buck that would be the way to go. I had the 2081, and have just upgraded to the 2085. I have also had the Samsung HD-841, now that one is a waste of time.
BTW, it is on sale now for 245.00 and 1.00 shipping. Normally its 35.00 shipping...

hey what about the Samsung DVD-HD950? It looks like it will cover my needs for now. I noticed that it was recommended for the $3000 system so it should be straight. The thing is its gonna get replaced as soon as all the Blue-Ray stuff is out and not insanely priced so I dont want to spend a ton right now. Id rather spend the extra money on a new reciever and a sub.

I would not recommend it. But thats because I had 3 Samsungs' Granted I had 3 HD-841's but they were nothing but problems.
I would say go with the Oppo, which is almost always compared to the Denon, or my favorite the NeuNeo.

Heck with that, get a bigger TV (?)

32" is just not big enough to watch movies. I'm at 52" and it's still not enough. (My friend's 9' picture from a CRT projector, now that IS big enough). So I think you should upgrade the TV, unless you are waiting for higher definition projectors or rear projectors to drop in price.

Otherwise, just get the Denon 2910 or such. All 3 disc formats and DVI output. There's another player will all that, but it's a modified unit, can't remember the name. (Not the Oppo, that doesn't do SACD, though it's only $200 if you don't care about SACD).
