to BASH - or not to BASH - question re: AMPS

Ok, so i went to the paradigm dealer and he had all these examples of "not so good" amps (both built into subs) and on the Marantz receiver. He said see how clean a design this is, blah blah blah.

He indicated that the amp in the Paradigm sub was a none-BASH amp and that in the ps-1200 it is rated at only 200watts. I said that kinda seemed small, to which he indicated that is was stronger and cleaner than that of a BASH type amp, as well as more efficient.

SO i guess my question is what is the real difference between the two? is one type better than the other? Does it even matter in todays electronics?

Whatever sub i go with i am sure i will be happy with, between the Paradigm ps-1200 and the SVS12, just wanting to learn a bit more about the types of amps and advantages/disadvantages.

I know from reading this board that SVS really pumps. I like bass, and want it to shake the house when i am in the mood for it. To me the SVS with a 500watt amp seems like it would do the job compaired to the pw1200 with 200watts. Thoughts?

I would take the SV Sub over the Paradigm. I have a BASH amp in my Cadence XSUB12 rated at 350 watts RMS. IMO all these sub amps are overrated. Depends on how efficient the woofer is. I would rely solely on your ears if you can demo subs. If you can't, you won't be sorry if you order an SV Sub. Probably the best bang for your buck - I prefer the cylinders over the box type - but both are highly rated.
