Seriously, I have no life.
These are pretty cool, like the way they work so far. User on TOS turned me on to them.

Seller has a few different versions, offers a solution other than mounting the fan in the stand.

Neat. How loud is it at high speed?

At 2/3 speed which is supposed to be 40CFM they claim 16db. I am running it there and it is quiet.

Not sure. I watched them some last night to see what was going on. While watching football at normal volume levels they would turn on and run about 1 min 45 secs, then turn off for about 2.5 mins, and then turn on again. All I can guess is heat builds up around the heat sinks, the fans come on and exchange that hot air out, and then they turn off. When I put my hands over the fans at time I could tell the air would get cooler as they ran.

it also cycled one more time after I cut everything off for bed, to exchange the heat that was already in there I guess. Considering the volume level I run movies at, I imagine they will run often.

System seems to work quite well.

Interesting product.. I have been thinking on cooling solution for my receiver but it would be nice if it was able to take power from receiver, but don't know of its possible.. If it had usb port in back of receiver that would be easy to do..

There are other solutions and I know at least one person stated they used a USB fan in that manner. I think that seller has USB powered versions.

Only bad thing is that my receiver dont have rear usb, only front usb under the cover..

I have a 200mm fan sitting on top of my receiver. It works very well to keep the thing cool. It spins 24/7 though.

I have a friend that has some decent equipment, but he is a casual user, not an AH'er.

He recently mentioned that his "AVR died and likely needs to see about better ventilation". My very first response--"Was it an Onkyo?". He replied "How did you know that?!?!?"

I use a 3v-12v wall warts paired with computer fans, bought from digikey for dirt cheap. The amps/avrs that are at risk have switched a/c outlets on back facilitating this, with fans located to extract air at the hottest spots. Dead silent even when run on 6v. Cheap insurance.
