I happened to surf the Best Buy website and they have listed at regular price, the Yamaha HTR5860 for $599 . Is that a decent price? I was wondering what I would miss if I chose that over the RX-V757 .

My apologies I thought I was in Amplifier/Receiver section

5860

I just got a 5860 at BB and love it. Between Futureshop and BB, it seems to go down to 549 fairly regularly and once in a blue moon hits 499.

The only difference between a 5860 and a 657 is that the 657 has the zone 2 output.

If you bump it up to a 757, you get an extra 5 Wpc, a supersnazzy remote and an extra analog input for your turntable (and the zone 2 output you gained with a 657)

It's on at futureshop for $499 right now. The 757 isn't worth the extra $300 IMO, these units are really very similar. Also go into Best Buy with the info and they'll beat the difference plus 10%, another $10 saved/ I still think we get shafted on the cost of receivers up here, but for $499 it seems like a really great starting point.

I may need the 757 as it has the phono input

I still love the sound of vinyl and it would cost me a fortunate to replace vinyl with CDs

If you are going to buy it online from Best Buy, make sure to use your visa card to receive an extra $20 off your order (over $250). Every little bit helps.:)

darn

Thats a really sweet price too but it lacks a phono input. That phono input is a prequistite .

Not being a turntable guy I can't say for sure, but I believe you could use one of the other analog inputs (has 2A, 4AV). You can rename the different inputs so it would read PHONO on the front panel dispaly and on the OSD

Yamaha prices

If you need phono, I think the RX-V2500 and 1500 have it. You can find them refurbished for $500 and $400 US respectively.
I have the HTR-5860 and would recommend it. Got a great price, $325 US shipped from an authorized dealer. The best prices you can find now are probably closer to $350 US.

shafted? Wait until you compare HK's prices at the Future shop to U.S. prices. I can never understand why the difference is so great.

I work at BB and for 599, the 1015TX is a steal(although its around 350-400 in the states).

The 1015Tx usually goes for $450 at Best Buy here in the states, though I got mine for a steal via my friend's employee discount at BB :D

If you need a phono input, you can pick an external one that outputs a normal line-level signal at PE (email me if you don't where this is) for $40 or so.
