TLS Guy Brought Something Over

Mark @TLS Guy stopped over today and gave me this Marantz DV9600 DVD player which was Marantz's flagship model when it came out 20 years ago. That was quite generous of him. It is many times better than any player I have! We tried a home made DVD that I have and it plays it perfectly. I used to record movies from Turner Classic Movies and I have 2 or 300 of them. But of course it'll be primo for playing music CD's. I will keep my Teac hooked up for the sole purpose of playing music from USB. But heck, this is quite a nice addition to my system. We played a Leon Russel DCC CD and also played a Bruce Cockburn LP since last time he was over, I didn't have the turntable hooked up yet. If I win the lottery, I don't have to change anything in my system.

I'll be playing my favorite James Garner movies tonight. It is called "36 Hours". Fabulous psyco-thriller war drama from 1964. Also stars Rod Taylor and Eva Marie Saint.

I had a really interesting conversation with Scott the owner of Hi-Fi sound where that unit had been on their used shelf for a year with no takers. I will make that the subject of another thread.

No, it is 20 years old and pre BD. It plays everything else and has really high build quality. It was the Marantz top disc player in 2006.
While I have a ton of dvds I also have quite a few blurays, just curious. I also use SACDs for multich content. My Oppo hopefully will work as long as I can :)
