Between the realities of limited resources for the agencies in charge of enforcement and consumer apathy, yeah, lots of businesses get away with lying. IOW, when you resign yourself to the fact that lots of businesses lie and get away with it, you are letting them get away with it.
There is a lot of truth in this statement but it's hard to be anything but apathetic when some of the biggest crooks are in Washington "getting away with it" on a spectacular scale.

Call me cynical but I believe as long as we have weak, greedy, ignorant or otherwise uninformed people in society there will always be plenty of businesses, political candidates, preachers, charities -- [you name it] waiting to take advantage of them. The intent of this statement is not to insult or disparage, only to illustrate. It's just like drug enforcement. They can arrest as many dealers and suppliers as they want. As long as the demand exists nothing will really change. Simply put. Morality cannot be legislated in a free society.

Reread my comments. I never said that. I merely distinguished between what is legal and what is ethical. The latter can be very subjective, the former not so much.
Then I’m not sure why you keep bringing up how it is in the real world when I have pointed to a definitive statement from the FTC that false advertising is against the law. How often people break the law, or how often they get away with doing so doesn’t invalidate the clear cut existence of the law. Enforcement, that’s another story. However, I’m only suggesting consumer protection laws as a potential avenue for legal action in lieu of Net Neutrality. I’m not saying that they will have any effect without enforcement, which in turn requires that the public does more than say “ohh well”.

Again, the term "misleading" is highly subjective and so of limited use in legal arguments.
There is a famous fellow that questioned the definition of the word 'is'. Didn't help his case much then, and questioning the definition of 'misleading' or 'truthful' isn't likely to help ISPs if they get caught red handed lying through their teeth.

No arguments from me there ;)

Another FAKE News report. The President didn't wait till next year. He signed it this morning 12/22/2017.
Hi, guy who hasn't been involved in the discussion, recently!

Why do you say 'another'? What fake news have I been spreading? I apologize my post was made this morning before the news was reported, but there you go.

The other part of that news is that this tax cut shorts our federal government and leaves us with a Trillion Dollar deficit, that was going to trigger an immediate stop payment to a number of social services - at Christmas. So after phoning our Republican led congress, probably around the same time I was posting this morning, they found the support to allow the tax plan to go through, without shorting those social services, until January.

So I am not sure what really prompted you to burst in to the discuss with accusations of fake news, but realize you too are apparently siding support for a bill that we cannot afford, will not benefit you personally, and allows you to know that while you won't be benefitting from the tax cuts, the people that are, are also shorting the system so much that MILLIONS of CHILDREN are going to lose healthcare.

https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/2-million-kids-will-lose-chip-coverage-right-away-report-n831606

That's just the first few on a quick google search of the subject - do you really want to keep that moronic 'fake news' statement going, while the guy who coined it is still being investigated for collusion?

I haven't been following this thread, don't know where you guys are at in discussion, but I will just throw this 2 cents out there: If domestic ISPs shape traffic to the extant that it is detrimental to americans, than they should be nationalized. If a company can not serve the public good, then they should not be tolerated by the public, especially if they provide an important service like internet access.

Thanks for proving you don't even have respect for the people who have just debated you
"There you go again."
You sir, are as misguided here as in most of your other responses. I only disrespect some of the people who have just debated me. It is funny to see the characteristics you assign to me, so blatantly obvious within your own posts.

I wish a special Merry Christmas to all the liberals. You seem to be especially unhappy now.

Sir, you're going to need to learn to speak English if you want to live in this country.

All, NN was in effect for about 2 years. What effect did it have, that's to say, how was it better or worse than what was in effect earlier? Also, now that it's gone, what has changed for better or worse? Just facts please not speculation.

If we’re talking about taxes, fake news, and attacking each other instead discussing things respectfully, then it seems like this thread has run its course.
