I'd probably pass on the BICs, the Polks look like a good deal.

Keep an eye out for the Infinity Primus P362 to go on sale somewhere too. Often times these go for $100 a piece, blowing pretty much anything out of the water for that amount of money.

If I had to pick one I'd probably go w/ the Infinity's. (I just don't like Polks. Polks aren't bad, they're just not my thing.) Honestly, I'd advise you to wait until Energy's go on sale at woot.com again if $100 is your max budget. Otherwise, I might look at some Ushers or TsC (out of business but still supported) bookshelves.

I have only seen the C series energy speakers sold on woot, and those have been discontinued. I bought some C-100 bookshelf speakers the last time they were sold, over a year ago, but I just sold them last week. Woot does however sell Klipsch reference speakers from time to time.

I would save a little longer and up your budget a bit. Polk are the very embodiment of mediocrity, at least on the smaller speakers, their larger ones the wrong side of mediocrity.

The Infinity Primus would likely be a good choice for our situation. I have not heard the speaker, but its waterfall plot means that it has to be at least a capable performer and good value for money.

Newegg sale on Polk Monitor 70's

I will throw this into the discussion....

This weekend (May 15-16) Newegg is having a fabulous sale on Polk Monitor 70 towers, just use coupon code EMCYSZS24 at checkout and save over $50 each off their normal price. Even with the paltry $3 shipping cost they are a super deal. ;)

i just got a pair of monitor 40s wow i did not realize how harsh and in my face the sonys sounded, the transients and "fine" detail on these things is amazing. these things remind me of how my awesome KEF speakers sounded, until they went out, although these speakers literally sound "out of the box" i can close my eyes and feel like the musicians are in my room, the imaging is so awesome, i could swear im using a center channel even though i am not, and the voice is SO accurate on these, like someone is actually singing or speaking. these speakers sound so natural and transparent im really impressed.
