Tiger attacks & kills 1 and injures 2

News around here says the kids were taunting the cat just prior to the attack, though that has yet to be officially proven (evidence is pretty clear though).

I've actually seen this tiger in person during feeding - the feeder said this one is very aggressive, and she most definitely was when they gave her the food. I have pics of this one during that feeding earlier this year. She charged the gal while she was feeding while we were there, which is also how the previous feeder was attacked and badly injured as well.

Sorry, but if it is true, idiots who provoke wild animals in captivity get what they deserve.

You take a powerful wild animal. Stick it in a little cage for everyone to come see. What do you expect.

Yep. Kinda stupid to put a wild animal in a cage to be gawked at in the first place. Even dumber to throw rocks at one.

Not that these 3 guys were teasing the tiger, that remains to be proven still, but if it is proven that they were f-ing with it then i say good deal, they got whats comming.

Only a complete moron teases a tiger:rolleyes:.

Another case of an idiot getting whats comming after f-ing with a wild beast.

don’t rule out that there are those who will say global warming is to blame.
I could see how some vague, convoluted logic could lead to that conclusion if it was a wild tiger, but a zoo tiger? Surely nobody is that stupid. Global warming is causing a lot of serious problems (which will get worse as time goes on), but tiger attacks are not among them!

If they were indeed taunting the tiger, they got what they deserve. Don't mess with a wild animal. Have they figured out how the tiger got out in the first place? Someone help it or is the zoo covering up a screwup by their staff?

Well..i have to agree with J_garcia on this one. If they indeed taunted the tigress..they knew what's coming.
They had to shoot the poor tigress just for being one, sad but true. We are the ultimate killers.

I love how the media is already circulating stories of the brother that was killed being a hero without having all the facts. That may indeed be the case, but can't they wait until more details are available...

Eerilly enough, when my son heard the story he said he knows the kid who was killed; he went to school with him. He didn't know him personally, but knew who he was.

New facts say that the moat was measured and is 4ft shorter than it should have been by current standards, though I would guess the SF zoo was built long before those standards were put into place. I am not a big fan of the big cat exhibits at this zoo as they never seemed to be overly safe.

The guys attacked deny taunting, however the footprints suggest otherwise. I get the feeling it was a little of both - they may not have been directly taunting, but it would seem they were somewhere they should not have been and that inadvertently provoked the attack.

Regardless of the details, the fact is the zoo will lose the impending lawsuit or simply settle. They are still fighting the last suit by the handler who was mauled. No matter what the patrons were doing, the zoo is still responsible to protect the public from the animals and the animals from the public.

I have to get the pics of this cat off another computer, will get them later tonight.

When my wife and I heard this story.
The first thing that came to my mind; was how strange it seemed, for 17, 19, and 23 year old boys / men, to be at the zoo, on Christmas evening.
I know when I was that age, I wouldn't be at a zoo, unless my girlfriend worked there.;)
I wouldn't be surprised if the police find the boy's discarded video camera; and find they were doing a stunt for YouTube.

I'm surprised the zoo was open Christmas day.

Now that you mention it, it makes me wonder as well. What were they doing at those hours at a zoo? I'd have been in a mass or at my gf's place.

I wouldn’t rule that out. I’ve lived in various parts of U.S. The degree of people’s stupidity is greater than you think.

I doubt the instinct of a wild animal will switch once they are put in a zoo for a few years. You see, Siberian tigers are used to cold weather and when they are put in a mild place like San Francisco, it can only speed up the agitation process and add the rising global temp thus…

(which will get worse as time goes on)
Worse? It’s better for Russia. The Tundra will thaw out and become fertile land producing tons of food while the heartland of U.S. will become a desert. People can live without gasoline but not without food so having more of it means more power. The result? Communism will rule the world and this planet will finally become a Marxist utopia. So, will global warming be really that bad?

Because they don’t have girlfriend to spend time with. They must be those geeks who spend time writing posts on internet forums and… Oops, I mean, the geeks who would go to a zoo in the evening.
