Yes, its all a huge conspiracy to screw the consumer over

While a lack of THX certification does not mean a unit is bad there are certain things you can expect from a THX certified unit such as certain power performance in a receiver which is measured in a way that is more demanding than most internal to the company power tests are. Also, you get a pretty nice DSP which is great for movies and games.
Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it is voodoo or bad it really does just mean you don't understand it. I suggest reading up on things before you corner yourself with such poor arguments.
If you really want to complain about marketing look at companies like Bose and Monster, not companies like THX who have done so much for the industry, like ohh, I don't know, standardization...
Edit: So I guess my stance is don't buy an item simply because it does/doesn't have THX, but don't bash one simply because it does.
