Does anyone have any info on the THX Optimum Resolution DVD's? I've seen the cover of "Total Recall" in this re-release, due out on Oct.24,2006 from Lionsgate. Ad says it is supposed to improve the picture and sound quality.Saw it on DVDtown site under "Oct. Releases".

Sounds like a way to try and sell the 5th rerelease of a title to me. Optimum resolution = 480i on a dvd, period. You can go the Superbit route and use more data on the video portion to make the picture sharper, but it's still MPEG-2 video at 480i.

Maybe the picture will look a little better than the previous release, but at this point who cares? If you want a better picture, wait for the high def versions of the film to come along. You may have to wait a couple years, but they're coming.

My opinion is that "THX Optimum Resolution" = pure marketing hype.

Nope, it = Optimum Pocket Lining for someone other than the consumer.
