THX Introduces Certification Program for HTiB Systems

So what does it really mean? It didn't give a room size like Select 2 or Ultra2 do, or any real info on what one can expect from a system with the cert.

What? Certifying HTiB systems with THX?

Isn't this kind of like taking a $4,000 Yugo and making it a hybrid? The cost of converting it to a hybrid vehicle would be greater than the original $4,000 investment in the car alone.

Don't confuse it with the existing certs, it is a new certification specifically intended for HTiB type systems. What it doesn't say is what level of performance that actually means though...

I've seen that Onkyo system online. I don't really understand why they didn't just certify the receiver and the speakers themselves as THX select?! It appears to me that the receiver has all the processing modes of the current crop of THX select2 receivers and it's not as if there aren't THX certified speakers. Granted, most THX certified speakers are of the ULTRA2 designation, but we know in general that means that they can deliver a certain volume/quality in a certain size(large) room compared to the Select2 designation which denotes a smaller room). Obviously, someone buying a HTiB is probably not buying it for what I believe is a 2500sq. ft room or something like that. HTiB is for a bedroom or somewhere where you truly don't have space for a bunch of components and/or large speakers. Hell, I'll admit it. I have a Panasonic HTiB in my bedroom in addition to the system I have in my living room. Sometimes I want to watch movies in bed, but I don't want a separate receiver, dvd player and a ton of connections to have to make in the limited space that is my bedroom.

I completely agree with you on this, its to bad that there are so many people who dont know this. I used to be one of them, luckily I did research before buying a Bose system and learned that it was not all that great compared to a true HT system.
