Can't tell ya offhand. Sorry. Someone might pipe in. I know you can run any Klipsch Heritage at extreme low wattage. I've heard 5 watts, but I never tried it.

That's the effect of sensitivity to an extent. They have specs for such. Higher sensitivity makes better use of low power amps....

Right but I thought you were asking for specifics and I'd have to look them up.

I knew a guy who could drive an Altec 604 15 inch Duplex monitor driver only with a headphone amplifier. It has a sensitivity of over 100 dB for a 1 watt input at 4 feet.

Every time you increase sensitivity 3db you halve the amp power required to get the same spl.

At what spl levels?
How do I know and they are all over the map when you play anything. Those speakers are not suitable for an AVR to drive.

The EPDR is more representative of the actual drive. So those speakers are not suitable for a receiver and Erin of Erin's corner also states that.

What speakers are? Or do you mean "are not"?
Look at it again, I accidentally must have clicked enter while searching for the impedance curve. Those speakers unfortunately are a very difficult drive and will always require very robust amplification.

A client of mine got the KEF R11 towers + matching Center + bookshelf + Yamaha RX-A1080 AVR. No other external amps. He plays it plenty loud for about 4 or 5 years now. Initially he thought he might eventually need an ATI amp. He might still WANT the ATI amp. But since his system has been playing great, he doesn’t even need any external amps for his KEF R11 system.

In that case, he is very lucky, and his luck may run out. The phase angle is -75 degrees where the impedance is below 4 ohms. The receiver actually sees an impedance that is effectively below 2 ohms at 100 Hz, and well below four ohms from 80 Hz to 1K. So, if he is using high spl. his luck will run out.

I don’t mind selling him the ATI amp at all. But if he is 100% happy, I am not going to tell him he must buy an external amp or else his speakers will blow up.

After 5 years of daily usages = 1,825 days, I don’t think it’s a matter of luck.

It is not the speakers that will blow up, but the receiver. He must keep his spl. levels down to have not blown his receiver. If you push those speakers hard a receiver is not going to tolerate that phase angle and low impedance.
