I am putting together a new home theater system and am researching all the various products now. I am curious about the fact that the Pioneer Elite receivers (I am considering a 55TXi) are rarely mentioned here even though they get raves at other sites.

If anyone has experience with this receiver, I'd like to hear your opinions on its 3 best and 3 worst features or performance issues. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-

I have the 45tx and am very satisfied with it. The auto calibration worked great (not an expert). That is one of the reasons that I chose it over the Denon 3803 & Onkyo 898. I also like its appearance.

I just upgraded from a Pro Logic Pioneer to a VSX-41 Elite, LOVE it!

I haven't had it long enough to suggest the "3 best and 3 worst" features really. Having upgraded from Pro Logic, everthing just sounds amazing! :) .

I did quite a bit of listening but for me, Pioneer won hands down.

OK ... LOVE the overall sound, optical ins and outs, the remote (works every single piece of equipment in my system.

At this point, I haven't found anything wrong with it ... yet.

I own the VSX-53TX. (The model just below the one you are considering)

3 things I like.

1. It is very easy to use. I have installed quite a few receivers and it is by far one of the easiest to set-up and use.

2. I use it to switch dvd/hd with component switching and I cannot see any noticeable degradation of the picture.

3. I previously owned a mid-priced Sony receiver and the difference in sound quality was amazing between it and the Pioneer.

I don't really have 3 bad things to say about it at this point. Sorry.

I will say this.. my receiver lacks PLIIx and component video upconversion. (however these features are not that important to me.)

Happy shopping! :D

I,too, had considered the Elite(either 49 or 53,don't remember) & the only negative I saw was a lack of upconversion, which I didn't really give a rats *** about. I fell into a helluva deal on my Yammy or I probably would have ended up with the Pioneer. I heard they had some reliability issues but that was a while ago.

I had a middle line Sony receiver some time ago.Never again, not even an ES model. While Sony makes some good electronics I don't think anything with amps is their strong suit.
