Thoughts on the Klipsch Ref IV

I know a few people started talking about the new reference IV, but I could not find the info I was looking for.

I would like to know how they compare to the reference III line. Specifically; how does the new RF-82 compare to the old RF-35? RC-62 to RC-35? And RS-52 to RS-25?

Looking at the specs there are minor changes. I wonder how this affects the sound! I like my ref IIIs. But I might be able to trade in my Yamaha's (see below), and I am thinking of picking up the ref IVs.

I am getting mixed reviews on the Klipsch. Do people favore them more for music or movies. And why?

What are the cons/pros between 2 way and 3 way speakers? The Yamaha's that I have are 3 way, while the Klipsch are 2 way. I like the Yamaha NS-8HX fronts. But it's the NS-C7HK that I can't stand. Too bad. :(

Thought? Suggestions?

Thanks.

I don't have specific comments on the models you're looking at, bud I did shop Klipsch as they were changing. I demo'd RB-35's and an RC-25, but I was really looking for RB-25's. I wound up going with Ref IV, RB-61's & an RC-52.

Klipsch says that the horns in the Ref IV are "more refined", and I guess that's true. Another way to put it, however, would be to say that they lost some of the "liveness".

I see little difference in the RC-25 I demo'd & it's replacement, my RC-52. All in all, I'm pleased with the change between the RB-25 & the RB-61. For a few dollars more I got a speaker that wasn't too much bigger in front area, but was deeper, with more volume & weight, and went 10hz lower.

Okay. Thanks. I'll give them a listen in a week or so.

Unfortunately, I have never listened to the Ref III series, but I recently bought the Ref IV set (see below) and I love the sound they produce. Also, every time I use them, they seem to sound better and better.

Unfortunately this is very addictive. I think I will keep my Klipsch Ref III, the Yamaha NS-8HXs and buy a new set of Paradigm studios (100,cc-570,adp-470).

:D

Got to love credit cards.

OH!!! And I plan on getting a Denon AVR3806. I can't use 3 set of speakers without 3 receivers. :D

I have the Klipsch RC-62 center channel with a pair of older Klipsch KG5.1 l/r speakers powered by a H/K AVR 745. It sounds very impressive and I have cranked it with no sound degradation at all. I'm happy with the RC-62 even though it was pricey.

I had a Denon receiver previously (14 years old) that recently stopped working and got a smoking deal on the AVR 745 from a friend that works for H/K.

KLIPSCH ISN'T BAD IF YOU DON'T MIND A SPEAKER THAT IS FATIGUING (Oh those harsh horns!!!!!!).

I did not find the Klipsch harsh. I bought a pair of Yamaha NS-8HX's, just for the sake of getting some different exposure.

Different style (3 way), higher price range ($2500 per pair - about double), heavier more solid cabinet construction, different cone materials, etc. For the mid and high frequencies they sounded similar. I found the Klipsch more boomy though.

I am going for a third set soon. We'll see how they stack up.
