Thoughts On DVD/VCR Combo Units

Trying to become more space-efficient and want to still utilize VCR capabilities. Wondered what the forums opinion is on the combo units, what models are suggested, and ones to stay clear from. Thanks...

Personally, I always liken the DVD/VCR combo to the stereo shelf systems. One thing poops out on you... the rest poops out on you.

However, if you must get one, stay away from sony. Sony stopped manufacturing their own VCR's quite a long time ago. I believe Funai has been providing them with their VCR's for quite a while now. This is probably true of all the manufacturers, nowadays, as it is no longer profitable for a brand name manufacturer to build and market their own product. My $.02...

i had trouble hooking the vcr/dvd up to my reciever since my reciever doesn't upconvert the signal information, you have to have a line directly from the video out port on the vcr to the television itself, then use the component video cables to hook up to your reciever, then to your television. but, i would have this same exact problem with hooking my vcr up through my reciever, so watch out for the upconversion thing. i hear there are some professional and jack-leg cables out there that can upconvert composite video to s-video, but that's about all i can do.

Tape is dead and has been for at least 5 years. How they can sell that garbage is beyond me.
I didn't shed a single tear when I threw all my tapes in the trash. My DVD collection, on the other hand...
