This is my situation

I'm trying to use my existing equipment and make a decent home theater system.

I just bought a Sony 50" LCD.

I have the following:

Klipsch RC-25 Center Channel
Klipsch RW-8 Sub Woofer
JVC HR-XVCIU DVD player

I need a couple of front and rear speakers and a receiver, can anyone recommend some components to complete this system that won't break the bank OR should I just get a "home theater in a box" setup?

The way my room is setup, I could run wires for the rear, but wireless would be cool. The room is 11' wide X 15' deep.

Thanks in advance!

If you tell us your budget range in $$$ you'll be better assisted.Since you already gathered some components don't go the HTIB route.

I'd like to get away with $500 to $700.00.

Well you've started with Klipsch stay that route. The front and center are key to H/T set up so try to match.Next, if your budget is a GRAND 1/3 on avr and 2/3 on speakers maybe go with bookshelf with your budget because most AVR in the 250.00-300.00 price range will do the trick untill you want MORE..:D
A GRAND WILL GET YOU A GOOD SET UP!!!

With 2 fronts, 2 rears, 1 sub, and 1 center channel I would need a 5.1 reciever (yamaha) and that will do it?

.....you'll probably want to use the rear speakers as 'surround' speakers, but yes, two fronts, two surrounds, one center, and LFE sent to a powered sub by a 5.1 receiver....by the way, that was a very good suggestion to go with 4 bookshelves for fronts and surrounds with a, let's say, starter receiver....

I'd bump my budget to $800 and pick up a pr. of RB-15's, a pr. of RS-25, and a Panasonic XR-55

.....do an info.com on each product and start checking links for prices....that's about all any of us can do......info.com, compilation of 14 search engines including Google....

I was just using google, pricegrabber.com.
....info.com is good....do the best you can, OCDood, there will be others along later that can hawk out prices plumb swuft....damp the Klipsch speakers fairly heavily is what I deduct from comments made....you'll stand to have a VERY good sound chamber with the RB-15's and the RS-25's.....

Start checking all your near by audio stores to see if they still have a pair of Klipsch RB-25 bookshelves, or some floorstanders, from the Reference 3 line - they should all be on close-out.

I'm happy with my Denon receiver, but I'd really look at the Pioneer 1015 if I was shopping now.

You've got a center & sub that are way beyond HTIB. Focus on a reciever & L&R fronts. If you take care of these, almost any surronds will do.

I'm looking for the RB-25's right now and a receiver.

I see you got some input.Just remember if you really on a budget try and stick to it and remember the speakers are way more important then the avr.Get those babies frist then get your avr.It never ends so get the best you can afford for sound because it starts there!:)

I'm going to purchase these items to complete the speaker system:

RS-25 (surrounds)
RB-15 (bookshelf)

Then I want to get the Onkyo TX-SR604.

This receiver doesn't have the HDMI Video Upconversion.

1) Is the upconversion the most important option if you have the HDMI interface?

2) With my setup, is it worth it to ensure the HDMI option?

thanks!

Hdmi

With your current DVD player, I wouldn't worry about HDMI. Run component video and take advantage of the receiver switching.

If you get a new DVD player or Digital Cable/satellite box, you can run the HDMI connection directly from the source to the TV. Use a digital optical or coax connection to send audio from the source to the receiver.
