Well how about a small firework to start off to see if that cracks the window shield? I mean surly the sudden burst would do that if the car was air tight! But having said that you’d need an air supply to pump oxygen in otherwise you’d suffocate.

They have so many episodes where it's as if they purposefully take the STUPIDEST way to accomplish a goal... For example:

1) We want lots of SPL, so let's use a single giant driver we make by hand... What???

2) We need to power it, so let's use the crankshaft... What?!?!!

God forbid they grab 20 MTX 12-inch woofers, some decent amps and a ton of car batteries... no.... they've got to ensure that there's no way we do this in any way resembling real-life situations...

Oh no, the driver tore itself apart... I NEVER would have guessed THAT would happen... lol. They never even sent it a tone so resonant frequency wasn't even a factor in the experiment. They also grabbed a car with a sunroof directly over the driver - oops.

They didn't even get it up to the levels of the competition cars, only 161dB. But that didn't stop them from claiming the myth was busted... which I find ridiculous considering how much reinforcement goes into the competition cars. Loosen up some of them and watch how fast the doors fly off and the windows shatter.

Thats Majorloser and his friend Irritate Guy. Majorloser is in the Braveheart gear.

You know, I've always wanted to use a motorhome as a platforms for one of these "sound-off" mobiles. I figure they have at least a 8KW generator onboard. I could use regular AC powered pro amps for power.

Imagine a Winnbego loaded with about fifty 15" woofers and 200,000 watts of power

I completely agree with Clint here. This makes Wayne Harris look like a dope. Had they measured the vehicle's resonant frequency and then designed a sub system to peak at that resonant frequency they would have seen some damage. Ususally the seals on the windshield are the first to. Welding a moonroof shut should have been done from the beginning. It was if there was no planning done at all.

The woofer was doomed from the beginning as it had nothing attached to the lower part of the cone to prevent rocking (which is what essentially destroyed it.). Why do normal woofers have spiders? That woofer showed it to a "T". The surround was not uniform either not to mention the baffle was moving nearly as much as the woofer. Essentially much more could have been done with the design to keep it linear.

Had they build a simple wall in the vehicle and did say 6-8 15's or 10-12 12's (vented) they would have accomplished more.

They were probably limited on budget though.

I will admit that 161db at 16hz is impressive!!

No doubt!

They always go way overkill, I can't remember but didn't they say it was to prove a normal street car wouldn't loose it's windsheild?

Comp cars are super reinforced machines... one of my favorite videos is of a well known car audio enthusiast named steve meade making a womans glass eye fall out of her head... classic.

It's on youtube but I can't access that site from work, maybe someone else can post the link.
