Hi. I own a Ps3 40gb and now a brand new Ps3 320gb. I just bought the Se7en digabook and it will not play on either. Also, I purchased Warrior on bluray, it freezes at exactly the 1:47 mark on the 40gb ( i havent tried it on the 320, i just purchased yesterday. I used a disc cleaner and exchanged the disc. same problem.
I read on the internet that the error code above means that the laser is going bad. My question is, could it be the laser on the 40gb since it is 6-7 years old?
Or do i just have a defective bluray period. Any thoughts?

Laser issues were fairly common among the early 60G and 40G PS3s. In some cases, the BD drive failed completley, I have a spare 60G unit like that right now. Does the 40G have the latest firmware? If it is a decoding issue with certain discs, that is usually fixed via firmware.

Do not use disc cleaners. Blu-rays have a scratch resistant coating and unless you toss your discs around without a case, scratching isn't as likely of an issue. I own almost 300 BDs and have never had a single one have an issue with them being scratched, though I have had one or two discs that were defective.

I never had an issues with "defective blurays" until recently. Warrior and Se7en. i just cant figure out why Se7en won"t play in either. They both have the same "error" code. My question is should i spend the 30-60 to replace the lense/laser on the 40gb or is that a waste of time?

I have Se7en so I can try it out on tonight. If it doesn't play on mine, it could be a decoding error. Checking the web it does sound like that would indicate either a failing laser or failing BD drive which, like I said, were both fairly common on the earlier models. Doesn't cost anything to call Sony support and ask them what that code means. They will tell you the cost is $99 to exchange for a slim and probably $129 to keep the same model, which is what I did with my first 60G.

You didn't say whether or not you had the latest firmware installed?

Tried se7en out last night and it worked just fine. If you have the latest firmware installed, then it isn't the disc that is the problem.
