Im pretty sure I have narrowed it down to the AVR-2310CI. Anyone have any thoughts on this receiver?

As a recent denon convert, I would be thrilled with a 2310. I went with the 1910 myself as the 2310 was just a little too pricey for me. I couldn't be happier. With the GUI, preamp outs, and extra oomph, I don't see any drawbacks. The audyssey setup with dynamic eq and volume are simply amazing. I think you will be very happy.

The 2310CI is a very nice receiver, but you might consider the fact that it does not have preouts for adding external additional power amps if you so wish in the future.
Just to let you know.

From what i have been reading most of the receivers in that price range didnt have preouts. I dont see myself wanting to add an additional power amp any time soon either.

I was also looking a the 1910

Well, actually only Denon is not offering preouts in their receivers for several years now, until you step to their 2800 series. :(

Several manufacturers offer preouts on their lower end receivers, like Marantz & Yamaha for example.

* But now, they are starting to remove them! :(

*** By the way, the Denon AVR-1910 is a very nice receiver, can't go wrong here. :)

I eliminated Marantz from my choices due to only 3 hdmi inputs. I was looking at the 5003/5004.
I elimated Yamaha due to the lack of Audyssey
Denon seems to have all of the features I would need and then some!

I have basically the same receiver (minus the serial port) in the AVR-890 and I have to say I'm very happy with it. It boots very quickly and switches video/audio inputs much faster than the H/K AVR-254 I had before it.

The only negative thing I have to say about it is that it doesn't feel as powerful as my older receivers.

On my Pioneer 814 (100W/channel) I watched movies at ~ -33db

On the HK AVR-254 (50W/channel high current) I watched movies at ~ -25db

On the Denon AVR-890 (130W/channel) I watch movies at ~ -15-20db

Speakers and room layout haven't changed at all (all Athena - see sig)

If pre-outs are a concern the new Onkyo TX-SR707 has pre-outs and Audyssey processing. It's MSRP is just over the Denon, not sure what the street price is.

I'm researching both models + the Yamaha RXV1065 for a Christmas bonus I'll be giving myself :)

That does not mean it is not as powerful. You cannot go by the volume setting alone. There are other factors.

Peng is absolutlely right. You just cannot judge the ultimate power delivery by the numbers of the Marster volume level on your receiver's display.
It is not an indicator at all of the true power.

* Of all the receivers you mentioned, the Denon is actually the most powerful, from his bench lab tests. But like I said, IT IS NOT the setting of the volume level that can tell you that, not for a second.

Cheers,
Bob

I was looking at this same receiver....

I posted elsewhere that lightning just got my Yammy HTR 5990.

I found this unit for $549 and I'm thinking that's an excellent price. The pre-outs don't really matter to me, I'm just worried about drop off in good quality/power in music since my Yamaha had 130wpc or so. Any one have any experience with this unit?

TIA!
Dutch

Maybe I should be worried about pre-outs! :)
