thinking Denon AVR-X4700H in pre amp with Audio Control Pantages G4

Not sure if this is helpful. I actually was able to pick up an original Audiocontrol Panteges (that version is 5x200). It was really cheap and I use it for my Atmos channels upstairs which is overkill. It's a backup as I could use my AVR for those channels. I compared to my Outlaw 7500 which is pretty much the same as the Monolith 5x in question. I found the Audiocontrol to be really dynamic and it can do the job. I am however a bit partial to the larger ATI AMPs. I don't think you can seriously go too wrong with those choices. The Pantages will be smaller and run cooler due to the Class H. The Monolith is a man sized AMP and for $1,700 I'd probably just go with a 7x and get the two extra channels for a little extra $.

I am guessing that the referral to Audiocontrol is partly due to the relationship between those two companies but that doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good choice.

Other option might be a series of the Outlaw 2200 monoblocks (or whatever they are now) but I'm not sure how the group would evaluate having a set of those vs a Monolith.

thank you! really appreciate the thoughts/insight. End of the day, in my untreated room, with glass and high ceilings, any good amp will probably do the trick =) who knows...maybe ill just run a 6700x and call it a day with one device........

Seriously I would that — unless you want to venture into all-separates one day.

I would do what most people do - set all speakers to small, XO to 80-120 Hz, and let the subwoofers do what they were born to do.

The X6700 should be able to output similar to the Yamaha RX-A2080 (about 260W into 4 ohms x 2Ch).

The 6700 gives you the changes to go with AVR only or nice pre outs for an amp later. So not a bad choice

Have you use the online calculator to figure out your power need yet? The 6700 may be okay if you sit close enough and don't get too close to reference level. Regardless, get yourself at least on Infinity fan to put on top of the unit. If you don't need 13 channel, such as 7.1.6, why not just go with the 4700 that measured very well on ASR, or consider the Yamaha CX-A5100.

NAD AVRs did not measure too well on ASR, I think the only advantage it has is Dirac Live, but in my experience, Audyssey XT32 can do an excellent job in the 20 to 200 Hz range, I don't believe Dirac can do any better, just different. That's base on my graphs plotted using REW. In terms of which sound better, it is a highly subjective matter. Aside from Dirac, with NAD you would pay more for less..just my opinion.
