Thinking about changing to a preamp

Hey guys, I'm a relative novice when it comes to HT so I hope this post won't be too far off target.

I currently have a B&K AVR307 (which I love), but I would like to start to take advantage of some of the newer audio and video formats that are now available. Unfortunately B&K isn't keeping up, or at least doesn't appear to be, with the market in that regard.

Could I go with a new pre-pro and still use my B&K as strictly an amplifier? If so, what would you recommend? I've read good things about Emotiva, but currently they don't have a processor available. (Website says end of this year.)

Sorry if this is hijacking this thread, it was not my intention.

If your receiver has HDMI, you could buy a decoding blu-ray player, and set it to output LPCM via HDMI. This would get you the new audio.

If your receiver has analog multi-channel inputs, you could buy a decoding blu-ray player, and use it's analog outputs to get the new formats. If you are 7.1, you want to be certain the player is 7.1;)

Thank you. The receiver is 7.1, but I'm using a PS3 as my Blue-Ray player right now.

I see what you're saying though.

In other words, you like, and want to keep your receiver power.

This is the way.;)
