Thinking about a new sub - your thoughts?

Hello all... I have been thinking about a new sub for some time now and I hopeing to purchase one withing the next 30-60 days. I was hoping for your advice on some choices.
Currently I have a Paradigm PDR-10 which I do like, I just want more. I ahve given thought to adding a second PDR-10 but I think I would raher stick with one sub due to space in the living room - wife likes the idea of 1 sub :p
I am a 70/30 HT guy BUT I like my music... Thus I tend to gravitate towards front firing subs, 10"ers to be precise. I have ben reading a lot about the SVS PB10-ISD and I am concerned that while it will be an improvement, it might not be what I was hoping for since I currently have a 10". I also have hard wood floors so I have to find something that doesn't have those spikes... I am not against a 12", I just haven't found a front firing that I can afford. Oh yeah, budget is $500... :( and room size is less than 600 sq ft
Anyway, I always appreciate your guys advice. thanks...!

The HSU VTF-2 MK2 in piano gloss black is only $469 right now.
I would suggest you check that out.

Just because yur Paradigm has a 10inch, doesn't mean its as good as all ten inch subs.

Example.

Toyota tercel has a 4 cylinder engine.

Honda S2000 has a 4 cylinder engine.

Would hte race be a tie? No.

The HSU one recommended is a must see. Its a great subwoofer, tunable too, Extention mode, or Output mode. For the price, hard to beat.

HSU and Outlaw are very similar. The STF-3/VTF-3 are around the same performance of the LFM-1. The STF-1 and LFM-2 are around the same. The outlaw subs were designed by Dr.Hsu.

SVS is a whole different animal according to everyone. Its got the extention capability that movies need. Its musical enough compared to many other subwoofers, and beats most of them. There still seems to be a crowd of music sub ╪ movie sub people. I personally think that a sub that can extend to 20Hz with 0% or close to Harmonic distotion and a flat FR will be good for music and movies.

If you want extension, SPL, and a HUGE sub, go SVS. The HSU units are supposed to be great alround units, and same with Outlaw.

Hope this helps, (if it does, gum please! :) )

The PB-10 will make the PDR 10 sound like a toy, and even the STF-2 will embarrass it. Paradigm's lower subs are definitely a weak point, IMO. Their top subs are quite good though, just too expensive compared to what you get for less from the likes of HSU and SVS.

Svs Pb10-isd

I cannot comment on hearing the SVS PB10-ISD, but I can comment on customer service, which is very important to me. My driver went on after 8 months on my 16-46pc+ and they had another to me in less than a week. They are always very helpful and willing to discuss in lengths about any questions I have had. Love my sub and goes far beyond my expectations. Not sure if you take into consideration warranty / service, but I would not hesitate to buy from them.

When I went sub shopping I auditioned the PDR-10, the PSB Subsonic5, and Axion Epicenter 175 and I walked away with the Subsonic5. In terms of musciality, HT slam, the subsonic5 did it all. That was 5 years ago .

Now if I were you, I would suggest you look at PSB's subsonic6i . It beat out Oulaws LFM in all aspects from extension, SPL and having the most uniform bandwidth . See Sound and Vision Sept2004 issue for more info. I feel that the subsonic6i is the most underated subwoofer out there right now

Hmm, sorry Sheep. But here are some quick specs on the VTF-3 (also a turbo option)
Frequency response (Maximum extension mode) ± 2 dB 18 Hz

So comparing with the STF-3 and specially the LFM-1. I would have to disagree.

EDIT:: But in my recent PM, I said I would return the chicklet favor.
So now I have to go find a good post:) (or one I 100% agree with)
Which I'm sure won't be hard to find;)

Both the STF-3 and LMF-1 are tuned to 25hz, and both have the same roll of according to reviews and personal experience(not mine). They have 300ish watts RMS. I don't see how thats not a safe comparison.

Note how I said "around" Obviously the Turbo is going to go lower... thats why I didn't say it...
