I think I need to look for a smaller sub for my bedroom (PB12-Plus), and was thinking about different sealed subs...

I would like something with a smaller footprint then the SVS... It takes up so much realestate in my small bedroom... 1800^3 but I still would like the ability to go low for HT use...

What do you guys think...?

All are great subs. The DD15's software sure makes it attractive and is probably equal to the Paradigm for SQ, but the Fathom is supposed to ace both. I'm sure you'd be happy with any of them. Used or new ?

I have been running back and forth with my SVS PB12-Plus and the SB12-Plus (ported vs. sealed) and am really impressed with the nature of the sealed sub, but I don't really care for the fact that it cuts out so high at 25hz.

Just tossing around different idea's here.... Room is small, so even a F112 would be probably more then adequate if it dipped into the teens....

Just thought I would try something different, and my kid is getting antsy to get his little sub back... ;)

IMO: PC13-Ultra with SMS-1 - small footprint met ... otherwise, pb13 Ultra

or you can try the F113.

I actually almost pulled the trigger on a B-Stock Ultra13, as its relatively the same size as the PB12-Plus, but it was gone already.

I don't really care for the look of the PC, but was thinking about something with a smaller size box... Although I have been running the SB12+ and its really great for music, and doing quite well even with HT, and I am surprised how low it actually hits, and shakes the house quite well...

I'll keep playing around with it, and see what happens. Otherwise I would be looking at a F112, which actually has almost the same output as the F113.

The F113 would only provide 3-4 db difference more, 1hz deeper, not really worth the extra dough in a small room....

I will be waiting on the SVS's Audessey EQ, for my main HT room, and taking the SMS-1 into the bedroom system.

Since you are prepared to spend such a considerable amount....

If you are interested in the best sound quality, spending an equal amount, and want to try something other than the standard retail solution: have a local cabinet shop fabricate two slot port boxes with blue prints you provide them and and use two JL 13" W7 drivers - one in each cabinet. Or alternatively, use dual 15" high excursion PRs on each cabinet instead of slot ports. Power with a suitable pro amp and an appropriate DSP processor/xover system. The two cabinets distributed into logical parts of the room will always result in superior, smoother bass response as compared to a single unit. You can also use smalled sealed cabinets like JL Audio uses, but this will result in lower output SPL and increased distortion. Though, these subwoofer drivers are so powerful, that even in the case of the small sealed box, they have substantial output and low distortion, as demonstrated by credible 3rd party testing of the Fathom subwoofer device. A Behringer DCX2496 unit will allow for all needed signal processing, and can handle up to 6 discrete output devices. But ideally, you would save two of the outputs to ideally integrate your main speakers, leaving the capacity for up to 4 discrete subwoofers(each can be individually corrected for room response) and 2 main channels.

Hehehhe that all sounds good WmAx....

Just looking at the selections of subs I picked out, those are probably even larger then I would probably be comfortable with.
I agree with you 100% on dual subs, its a night and day difference, but I can't do that here... just too much furniture, and nowhere to go with a second sub...

That is probably getting to be larger then I would like for my bedroom, and I certainly don't have the room for it... Im thinking Something in between the SVS Plus ported and the SB12-plus

I do have a couple of 15" TC-2000 which Illka tested out to be really fantastic sealed in a 90L cab... http://www.hometheatershack.com/forums/subwoofer-tests/5759-diy-tc-sounds-tc-2000-15-sealed-90l.html
Still have to get more time to work on the Dual ported subs for the Great Room where those TC's are meant for...

But I think it would still be just a bit large for my room, which is why I was looking at something like the F112... (used market only for me) To me I guess with the amount of extra money spent, your paying for ease of integration... integrated amp, room EQ-depending on sub, fit and finish.... not that you couldn't get that on your own with dedication...:)

Bump to the Sunfire True Sub EQ or EQ Signature. :D 13" x 13" cube that sounds pretty damn good.

I ideally like moving a lot of air slowly, but for those who need to subwoofer that works in a lot of rooms in terms of looks and all around has good utility, the Sunfires are fantastic. Big subwoofer output with clean bass in a wife and design friendly package.

I think the whole idea was to use a smaller subwoofer, that still performed at a level close to the SVS.

Hmm. Okay. Let's think small. A single JL 13W7 in a 2 cubic foot sealed cabinet, using a single parametric band to compensate for the small cabinet, and you can have +100 dB at 2 meter ground plane at 20Hz, +105dB at 2 meter ground plane at 25Hz, +110dB at 2 meter ground plane at 30Hz and over. All of this at super low W7 distortion levels, of course. To get this performance, you need a clean MINIMUM 1000 watts to feed the unit(if you double the power, you can get a couple more dB output, realistically) and ideally a processor like the DCX2496 to control it. Fathom performance for less than 1/2 the cost. Just have the prettiest darn cabinet made by your favorite local cabinet maker. :)

Well, later this afternoon, I had the ability to line up a deal on something small, and powerful. I got a price as low as I could possibly get from a buddy that had an in, and gracefully passed that along to me... so basically cost..

So I guess we'll have to wait to see how it performs...... when it shows up...

Whoa...$1,100 for an 8'' sub!
Hehehhe I thought about that one for about .000008 seconds.....

Not sure I would take the path of downgrading my subwoofers sonic qualities.

I suppose I will let the cat out of the bag...

My buddy that owes me many favors, (hint - never take money from a friend for a good deed, just tell them they owe a favor back) has a buddy that handles JL Audio, and got me a F112 for his cost, so I will be implementing a high quality, small footprint sub in my measly little room.
All 3 of the subs I was looking at were all starting to get to big in size:D

I was very happy with the output of both SVS's (PB12-Plus and SB12+) in my bedroom with the Paradigm Sigs, but thought it would be nice to try something different. It should make for more fun on comparing these subs as well...

Needless to say, its time to unload my PB12-Plus Piano Black.
If anyone is interested, Pm me... It will be posted in the Classifieds soon.

Depending on how much I like the Sealed Sub sound character, I might have to change my design for my subwoofer build strategy for the big room...
