There are times I hate personal responsibility ....

It stinks when fiscal responsibility means that I can't get a new toy at a "steal" kind of price .... This year I spent 11K to refi my house [8K to pay down principle so I wouldn't have PMI] ; 3 K because of storm damage to the house [deductable] ; and 1K of misc. unexpected expenses.

Don't get me wrong. I feel very fortunate that I was in a position that I could spend 15K that I hadn't budgeted and I would agrue that I've made sound decisions.

The thing that does annoy me [and makes me want to vent] is that for 850$ I had a chance to pick up a really nice sub that would otherwise cost me 1700$ shipped [friend's sub didn't meet WAF standards] and I'm going to have to pass because I'm not comfortable dipping into the rainy-day-money any further.

Grrrrrrr .... maybe in a year or two :)

How much could you sell the sub for if you decided that you needed some cash? If you're getting a great deal, perhaps you wouldn't really be dipping into your reserves...just converting them into another form of capital.

Hey, what did you expect from a group of AH other than excuses to buy it? :D

Well Done!

I'm glad you chose to be responsible about it. You made the RIGHT decision. There will be other good deals to come along that you can move on once you have rebuilt the rainy day fund.

You wouldn't have had the WAF if you had gone ahead & gotten the amp either.

PMI is the bane of my existence, you lucky bastard. I just bought my house and I'd need about 45 grand to get rid of PMI right now.

At least I was able to significantly upgrade my receiver and Blu-Ray player before it started "raining" so I'm happy about that.

I know the feeling

I've got a list of upgrades I want to make, but what i remind myself is that stuff generally improves technologically speaking. So if I wait then I can get something better for my money.

I've had a freeze on spending since June and that was probably too late.

I'm learning it's better to spend on experiences than on items. Experiences you have forever. A home theater simply need be good enough for each of our budget.
