The Yamaha YHT860

Hey guys.

I am new the whole Home Theatre buzz that is seemingly catching everyone's attention. I do however am very interested in attempting to create my first home theatre.
Can someone tell me if the yht860 htib is a good deal. 750 watts, upgradable to 6.1, and from what I can tell, a damn good receiver. here is the link...

That is not bad, but I think you can do better.
For instance:
Pioneer 815 $250
4 Bic DV62si $220
1 BIC DV62 clr $110
Cadence X-Sub $250
Total $830

This is going to sound much better than that HTIB, and you can upgrade it just as well.

first of all thanks for the reply. However, I absolutely love the floor standing look. So thats why I think I am leaning towards the Yamaha.

Any other ideas?

If you like the floor stander look, you might aswell get the performance. I don't know how much the bic acoustech(typo?) system is, but its not much more then that yamaha, and it will have way better performance.

I agree with the lamb on this one. I've seen the BIC acoustechs for under $750. Those and that pioneer 815 would be a great combo.

A little more than you wanted to spend, but you wont be sorry later down the road. Plus this system is going to sound 4-5x better than that HTIB system, for a fraction more $$$.

If you look around on www.ubid.com you can get it for less if you buy them seperately. As of right now I have purchased the Center Channel and the Towers for a total of $300 shipped. I got the center channel last week and it sounds amazing crystal clear and it has some bass, yes thats right a center channel with bass, and dont be worried about it having a horn tweeter it isn't sharp sounding at all. The towers are supposed to be here thursday so I'll let everyone know my thoughts on them as soon as their out of the box and I throw a movie in.

I'd stay clear of HTIB's for your money. Here's why. The receiver is outdated. It's a 5.1. 5.1's were popular in 1997. Plus it's an entry level receiver, and won't push other speakers should you decide to upgrade. The speakers in that set are all looks. Yamaha makes a nice slim speaker that does sound good, but it doesn't come in a HTIB package. The subwoofer may sound good in a 10x10 bedroom, but for a family room - forget it. The best way to buy your first HT is to go piece by piece. You know how time flies. You'll have that system built in no time. I know you like the look of the towers, but if you compared the BIC DV62 bookshelves to those towers, you'd faint. BIC also offers towers reasonably priced. What is your immediate budget, and what would it be if you spead these purchases over 3 months?

Go to your nearest Best Buy and demo these, and compare them to the HTIB you were considering. Then go listen to the Klipsch tower speakers which should be hooked up to a beefier Yamaha receiver. The Acoustechs recommended earlier will sound similar to the Klipsch, but without all the harsh treble.

People always talk bad about HTIB. Being this is the case, I guess it must be true. None the less I have decided not to get the yamaha's and just to buy things one at a time. It will be cheaper for me now and better down the road.

I think thats a great idea, you'll end up much happier with the outcome if you take the time to buy what you really want, not what you can afford at the moment.

yea... I still like Yamaha. I am currently looking at the yamaha ns-555. What I think I will do is buy the ns-555 front and left speakers. A center channel, a sub and a reciever. Wait and expand to 5.1 later.

Speaker options

The Yamahas that you mentioned above would be a much better solution than the HTIB. The Bics mentioned previously and Athena Audition Series speakers (which I have) are other good alternatives.
