Sorry, but I have to vent, since I'm sitting in my office alone {gave everyone in the office a 3 day weekend} waiting for a fax, that I have to sign and return by 12 today...

So anyway I have a job going, kind of large, and requires a certain amount of union tradesman, no big deal, except these guys don't move!!! Im at the job site this morning, and nothing is getting done, these lazy over paid scumbags, just loaf around and make an appearance to work... I ended up throwing them all off and Ill put in for 4 more guys Monday, meanwhile letting my guys smash away at the job this weekend, their probably won't be much left to do by the time they send me another crew.... Then you have these guys saying "there is no work out there", there is work but you need to do it....

My foreman was so pissed, he said " how do these guys feel like watching us work while they text on their phones and get paid", thats when I flew down there and emptied the site, told them all to go home, the sad part is thats what they want, they will still get paid, but at least I don't have to look at them...

Anyway, thats it, lazy union guys ruining my day... I do have a lot of union friends, and all Local guys aren't lazy but, it seems like the pipers I get lately suck.... Its sad the labor unions are suffering so much but its not going to get better until they make the guys do some work... I used to laugh watching all the union carpenters sitting around doing sh!t, but now that Im paying them out of my bid, it sucks...

We don't have Unions in Texas so I don't really understand how they are supposed to work.

My closest experience was likely when we had our pool built a few years back. On decking day a Sup dropped of 14 people with shovels, a truck load of dirt and rebar then the Sup left.

I watched out the window and for 5 hours the workers just stood there. With two hours left, they started working like mad and they were finished when the Sup showed back up.

I guess they were being paid by the hour and the job allotted for 7 hours of work and they knew they could do it in two.(?)

It was kind of funny and sad at the same time in my eyes.

You could remove "the UNION" from the title and still be accurate. :)

I'm not in a union, and I'm lazy as s***. :D

I think I have gotten lazy the last year or so. I mean, I work my tail off on the cardio and biking but I have kind of lost my edge at work.

I used to have to me the number 1 sales rep where ever I was. Now I just try to be a mid-rep and hide under the radar. I am tired of being punished for my achievements by getting an increased quota in return.

I can't gripe too much since I made this bed to sleep in but sometimes I wish I just had a 9-5 job and I knew what my paycheck would be week to week.

I start my new job on Jan 2nd and the expectations will be really high since I am their highest paid rep. Crap...I just made the bed deeper...Maybe I should have accepted their first offer and I could just be mediocre...

Or add the word "government" to "The Union" and you can kick up a few notches of lazy.

Of course I'm talking about everybody else, not me. :D

There are always a lot of pros and cons to unions. I'm in one and I get as pissed at many of the other members and the union as I do at the administration for trying to screw us over.

I think it goes both ways. If some bosses weren't always trying screw the workers out of what they deserve then workers wouldn't feel the need to unionize. Then, on top of that, if unions didn't do so much to protect all of its members no matter the cost the union's reputation or get complacent, then bosses wouldn't try be so hard on the employees. It's just a big circle of sh!t :D

I work nation wide, I'm non union, and anti union. I've worked in Chicago on non union jobs and watched the union send 2 or 3 jackholes to come sit in front of a worksite with a blow up rat, pop out there lawn chairs and cooler and watch us work. Pathetic.

Unions are obligated to defend its members. Look at it this way: if you were accused of a crime, how would you want your lawyer to defend you?

Incompetent management is the primary reason an employee wins in a grievance or disciplinary action.

The problem is some jobs REQUIRE union labor, and if I want to do the job I need to hire such a percent of union workers, Im aloud specialists as "privateers" but that is it, the bulk of the labor has to be done by Union guys, and all workers on sight must be paid "union" wages, which I don't have a problem with, but I do have a problem with paying guys to do nothing ,so whe I send them home they still get paid for 2 days even though they don't have to come in to work!! Which also doenst bother me, I'd rather pay them and not see them do nothing that have to pay my guys to watch them do nothing...

Just lucky its not the wild west, cause there would be a showdown in lil tokyo for sure...
