The temu spammers lately

It really is an annoyance to click on new posts and see nothing but a list of spam posts sometimes two pages long. This issue is not anywhere near as extreme in other forums that I have seen.
First time I've seen this many. Over 20 spam posts. Not a fun time to be a forum moderator.

IIRC, ASR instituted a mandatory new post review by a mod for new posts from new accounts. They were getting hit pretty hard for a while. Since then, haven't seen anything over there.

We have to try something, as this can not be allowed to continue.

I've been "ignoring" all the temu spam posters but that's getting exhausting. Does the number of ignored members somehow create some sort of plug evenutally? :) Just how do they create accounts/posts so easily and why is there no defense?
Thanks; for the" ignore" tip; all of the TEMU went away after about 4 "ignore"
button presses...

Enjoy!

...Ooops; spoke too soon; they're back...

This is not going to stop unless we do something different. I vote for giving Captcha a trial.

So, they are following you around.
fwiw this is the only one I'm seeing this level of bullshit posting in.....and while the "ignore" thing works somewhat, not really. I'm game for even volunteering as a mod simply to weed out initial posts from new users.....first five seems like would cover most of it?

Seriously, I have no life.
Is it feasible to have more moderators or trusted members to block and delete all their posts only?

That is what this site should also try, and IMO would indeed do the job.

I had similar problems in my Triad forum, until I had new members have to answer a question to be admitted. The question should be formulated so that any person interested in AV would be able to answer it.

We have put in a request for some form of post throttling or other challenge response. Obviously the current safeguards have been defeated.

Mods can only clean up after the fact. We can't pull any levers on the prevention side.

Can the IP be blocked? Is there a common IP for them?
Easily circumvented by organized groups doing this.

I think a challenge question or individual mod approval of new member posts is where this sits at. I would prefer the former as it's less work.
